" For some reason my credit card would not scan and I was made to pay 200 euros to take out the additional insurance excess (which I had already purchased). The lady did not want to know nor would she let me use my partners credit card (of course the contract states it has to be mine as I'm the driver). Long story short not very helpful. But whilst I am annoyed about this issue, that isnt the real problem with my booking. We picked up the vehicle around 10pm with it being pitch black. Upon setting off and getting onto the main road the clutch was getting stuck and springing back up at me. It seemed to be an intermittent thing and was hit n miss. We arrived at our destination all ok. The next morning I inspected the vehicle properly and to my shock horror it was clear that they had installed a carpet matt (rubber) that did not fit that vehicle. This was the reason for the clutch sticking (it was catching on the matt). I had to make sure that the matt was moved down so it wouldn't catch for the rest of our trip and upon drop-off I made the gentleman aware of the issue and he immediately recognised what the problem was and that the matt wasnt fit for purpose. "

" Yours Rhodes: Staff were very smiling, attentive, polite, and swift, and there was no hard sell on extra insurance whatsoever. Both pick-up and drop-off were a doddle, and the deposit was returned only a couple of days afterwards. Car was new (208 1.2 normally aspirated), not the quickest thing (my choice), but ideal for Rhodes (which has a few dirt/gravel tracks & car parks and a theoretical maximum speed limit of 80kmh), car was very clean and fresh inside (please remember persistent dust on the island when judging external), and price was excellent, less than a pint at the pub/day. On driving off, an unfamiliar dash light came on, and going back they dealt with it immediately. Yours will be my go-to every time I return to Rhodes from now: 5 stars. On arrival via their shuttle bus the agent told me he could not accept my credit card for security deposit on the autoeurope booking. He said he could only rent a car to me if I paid an additional £175 fee. I was stranded, had no other way to reach my destination so I paid £175 plus the security deposit (which was returned later) using the same credit card that the agent said he could not accept for the original autoeurope booking. I feel this was done because he knew I had no other way. A Long distance from airport. No taxi nearby. Long way from my hotel - He said either I don't rent you a car and you walk away, or you pay £175 and a security deposit, then I rent you a car. "

Eventually got invited over by a lady in the adjacent car rental company (but I believe they are all the same anyway, just with a different name. The whole process shouldn't not take more than 10 to 15 minutes since all the paperwork and documents are already in place and presented at the time of collection. " Auto Europe was an efficient platform to use and book i would recommend that clarity over insurances and additional payments are addressed as when i booked i upgraded to premium yet AbbyCar still wanted to upgrade beyond that. "
" On collection there focus was to try upgrade insurance at a premium, they needed to block £1600 as a security deposit which was prohibited by my bank. my bank advised that this is becoming an increasing problem as the amount of money is automatically flagged as fraud. I managed to resolve it, however the counter staff advised if i couldn't i would lose the rental amount and or i could pay an additional £500 to resolve the deposit issue. I ordered a kia stonic (2 x suitcases) or similar and ended up with a fiat 500xl which was in a bad state of repair, tyres were worn and not fit for purpose, door would not open at times and the parking brake worked intermittently. I could not fit my suitcases in it without putting down the back seats. this was a really bad experience especially from someone that travels on business and rents cars regularly. by far the worst company i have ever dealt with. "

" I hired the car expecting a nearly new hire car, what I got was a very old car with scratches and dents on every panel, so many it was impossible to log all the scratches and damage to the vehicle. I made my views clear as they demanded €800 deposit for any damage, I asked for another car but was told there wasn't any, although there was plenty of vehicles available in the compound. Upon driving back to my hotel I found the air conditioning did not work, I emailed EXER but had no response. For the first 2 weeks I was only doing short journeys. On the last week I needed to use thd car on long journeys, the temperature was up to the 40s so needed air conditioning working, I had to drive an hour to ask for a replacement vehicle, they did but gave me another old car, slightly better paintwork but air conditioning wasn't great. In my opinion the cars given to me are not suitable as hire cars as they are too old. They haven't as yet returned my deposit to my card. "

" I have used Auto Europe previously and it has all gone well, but I am very disappointed to have paid €70 extra for a larger vehicle, only because the intermediate vehicles would never hold 4 large suitcases, so I feel that description was inaccurate really. Perhaps you might consider rectifying the description or be more specific about the suitcase size ! "
" We specifically booked the car as it showed it could take 4 suitcases, 4 passengers. When we were offered a car in the intermediate range as booked, it was clear we were never going to get 4 people and luggage for 4 for a weeks holiday. We ended up having to pay for an upgrade to a larger vehicle just to accommodate the luggage. I would just prefer this to be much clearer, as the only suitcases the intermediate car would carry is small overnight/weekend cases. This is not appropriate for a weeks hire at, what is a holiday destination, therefore unlikely to have people with small suitcases. Other than wasting time on collection try to solve the issue, paying for additional hire the vehicle was ok and served us well. The book through yourselves, save the description of size/capacity was very straight forward. I would urge people to check the actual size and this lesson has been one learnt. "

" Very good as used Auto Europe a lot in the past. However on this occasion two issues: 1) The indicated pickup place on the Auto Europe voucher at Rhodes Airport of Exit 9 is wrong, it is Exit 5. Exit 9 is departures, and that doesn't matter because you are dropped at the airport by the shuttle bus anyway. Exit 5 is important because it is a walk away and you wait where no one can tell you anything about picking up a rental car there. 30 minutes wasted! 2) Whilst the insurance purchased through Auto Europe was extra cover, Abbey did not recognise accept it was fully insured unless I paid more, which I did not because supposed to be included with the offer! "

Yes it was on the paper work but we have never had to use one before as my visa debit card has always been accepted.They in the end said we could still have the car if we paid another €350. My card was then accepted to pay this extra money. We had already paid the price of hire when it was booked. We didn't understand why this was but we paid it as we needed the car. They then said they would give us the next size car up. The car had an awful lot of scratches and black marks on it, so my wife had to take a video of the whole of the car. As we got half way to our hotel the service light came on. So we rang them to report it. First of all they didn't understand why it was a problem for us. I had to insist on returning the car the following morning to be checked. We had to take it to there garage to be sorted. With all the cars we have hired in Rhodes we have never had anything like this. We will never use abbycars again as we ended up paying a lot more for it and would of got a better deal elsewhere. We were not the only holiday makers that this happen to. "

" Despite paying in advance for the car hire from Carwiz for an entire week, as we arrived an hour late due to a flight delay, our car had been allocated to someone else! We pointed out that we were actually only 30 minutes late, but there was nobody from Carwiz at the terminal to greet us, no buses and they didn't answer their phone when we tried to contact them. We were left stranded at the airport! Absolutely disgraceful behaviour. We paid in advance for the week so no idea why it would even matter if we were slightly late picking the car up, they already had our money! The guy from Carwiz when we eventually got through to them on the phone, then proceeded to hang up on us when we were trying to sort it with them. We instead went down to Rodos car hire who were superb. Just book directly with them in future and avoid Auto Europe and Carwiz at all costs. "

" Our experience overall with AbbyCar was excellent. Our checking-in, after arriving in Rhodes was great. We were picked up by our taxi after c.15 minutes wait (which is fine). We were attended to by a professional clerk who quickly took us through the paperwork we needed to complete. In fact the only delay, at that stage, was caused by ourselves as we hadn't remembered we needed a Credit Card in the name of the Driver/person booking the vehicle (Oops!). The car was clean and tidy with a full tank of petrol. The clerk walked us around the vehicle pointing out and marking on our contract existing damage (which was minimal, and the usual scratches you'd expect with a hire car). We had no need to contact AbbyCar throughout the duration of our stay. At the time of checking the car back (at the end of our stay), again the process was slick and pain-free. The gentleman checked that we hadn't caused any new damage and asked us to ensure we took a photo of the document confirming that to be the case, which he'd signed. We were then swiftly taxied to the nearby Airport (c.10 minutes max away). "

" The pick up wasn't clear where to meet. The booking said T9 - which i went to and had to phone to find out where to meet. The transport to Abbeycars was fine. It felt like At reception their primary goal was to sell additional insurance - which i'd already purchased via autoeurope. so they made everything hard work after that. one credit card didn't work, so i offer to pay via debit card or amex which they refused to take both for a 700 Euro hold. the entire thing took nearly an hour to sort out. autoeurope - you need to sort out this insurance issue. i'd already paid you additional for full waiver this so having to do a seperate 3rd party hold on arrival wasn't explained with 700 euro hold put on my card. very poor experience for everyone. just glad there were no claims needs, as i can only imagine the pain. then on last day the car got a puncture on way to airport, there was no spare wheel! so we were on a remote road, little phone reception and no spare. thankfully with help from locals we got hold of abbey car and we were only a short distance from the airport so it worked out ok. I would expect more - these two points above i hope you address, one is in your gift the other - spare tyre would seem an essential thing to have in any car. Unless you sort out the waiver i won't be using autoeurope again if that is how it works if pay you and have to then have large holds on my card locally. "

" Firstly when booking online it was advertised that it was pick up at airport but after paying I got info saying that it was a shuttle bus to collect. I would not have booked if that was the case. I had info stating that I had to meet a rep at exit 5. However nobody was there and after some time I eventually found the rep at exit 9! The staff at the counter were friendly until I said I had my own insurance and then they pretty much didnt talk to me. I purchased a Peugeot 206 or similar and I was given a fiat panda that we could only just fit in with all our luggage. The car was in a pretty bad condition with dents and bumps all over and a warning sign on the dash. The staff said this was normal! Not impressed at all until we returned which we were met with friendly staff. Still awaiting or deposit return. Will not be recommending abbey cars to anyone. "

Centauro do not take Amex, nor a credit card on Apple Pay, nor debit cards. This was not made clear on booking and ended up costing us more than 100% the initial booking cost on pick up. Unbelievable. The insurance was already paid for in full and was a full comprehensive, no excess insurance, so why they need to take over $1,000 holding on your card is a mystery. " As a leading premier car hire company and paying a premium price I was very disappointed at the condition of the car. Although clean and tidy it was very tired and had several faults that in the UK would make it unroadworthy. The nearside headlamp was not working A constant drone from the nearside wheel bearing/drivetrain Fuel gauge not working resulting in filling up with as I didn't want to run out of fuel. " Given the hard sell on extra insurance on arrival - we have our own policy so never take it - but always uncomfortable and unnecessary. The car was covered in orange sand from a recent shower and there was no water in the washers to clear the windscreen before we could drive. They filled the water and the wipers wouldn't work as the rubber was shredded so they made no contact with the windscreen. They took a blade from another car and put it on ours. The lady behind the desk insisted that there was one mark on the car. There were multiple. We took pictures of everyone and made them mark them down on the chart. We also took a picture of mileage and fuel level. We had no problems with the car during our 5 day stay and returned it early in identical condition. The lady who checked the car upon return would not accept all the small marks to the car until I showed her all of my pictures - she then quickly decided all was fine. They had provided 6/8 of a tank of fuel which is completely ridiculous but we managed to refill it to exactly 6/8 by some small miracle. When she turned the car on she tried to suggest that there was fuel missing until I showed her the picture I had taken of the exact same fuel level on pick up. Suddenly all was well and there was no problem at all. We have hired enough cars to know all the tricks of the trade now and we try not to fall for any of them but honestly .... its a tedious, unnecessary game and slightly ruins the start and end of your holiday when you just know that there will be attempts to con. It also means that for a couple of weeks after return I have to constantly check credit card receipts to ensure that they have not taken money and have refunded the blocked amount. On the whole it was excellent value for money and the car was, eventually, fine. The transfer to the airport was slick and the driver was friendly and professional. We wouldn't be thrilled to use GreenMotion again and would struggle to recommend based on our experience. "

" What I booked being "Drive" last year and this year were 2 extreme experiences that were poles apart. I did not get the full details until I had booked and by then this was not refundable. Given the exceptional and customer friendly experience last year I did not think it would be a problem. How wrong I was. PS. in addition the online "free aditional driver" offer was worthless as it did not cover the time of the car hire booked (was valid from the day after the hire ended). Given the additional cost of the hire/insurance I felt it was pointless to pursue this with Abbycar. "
" Apologies as I have to be very frank. I have hired holiday cars on many occasions and used auto europe last year and so was keen to use again. Upon this occassion we arrived at the airport and I was taken off site (not walking distance)and strictly without my travel partner and subjected to very hard sell tactics for zero excess insurance. I was told that the excesses as per paperwork were incorrect as i was liable for the full value of the car, I was told that i had just 5 minutes to make a decision or the booking would be cancelled. i was told that the "full protection" I thought I had booked online and evidenced in my paperwork was invalid. I was asked to pay a whopping €175 for zero excess insurance. I also had to authorise with PIN €100 to cover any violations eg speeding/parking tickets. On calling my friend to check online customer reviews I learned that to not take out the insurance was likely to result in a full excess charge even for a minor stone chip or even sand left in the car (which is usually fair wear and tear). I feel that myself and the somewhat distraught mature lady in front of me (with different counter staff) were singled out and subjected to time share style hard sell tactics. I am a reasonable and patient person and have thought long and hard about this experience and won't let it cloud my otherwise exceptional experience and respect for the Greek people over the past few years particularly. Any help and feedback you can give me is welcomed. It seems that this was not an isolated incident given the online reviews and I invite you to investigate and make good the reputations damaged. Please would you acknowledge this and inform me about your complaints procedure. "

" My best advise that I can give - make sure you have extra excess insurance when renting at Rhodes island. Most of cars are very tatty and drivers don't take care when driving. Parking in Rhodes town is very tricky and it is just too easy to get your car scratched when left in car park. One slight dent that I didn't notice until I was returning the car would have cost me 570 euros if not for extra insurance I had booked. Regarding the rental company itself, there seems to be 3 or even more car rental companies under different names: ABBYCAR, GreenMotion, DriveRentACar, but with the same manager, so something dodgy is going on.. Regarding car rental, I have booked and paid for Hyundai i30, however I received vw Polo, which is not equivalent size for i30, it would have had to be VW Golf or similar. They couldn't offer anything that size. Car itself had loads of scratches everywhere, so impossible to keep count if a new one appears or not. Staff were relatively efficient and not too pushy for their own extra insurance. "

The assistant made me feel very worried about being under insured for the first 3 days of my holiday. She told me if I did not spend over 200 Euros on the increased insurance, I was liable for the full cost of the car, over 20,000 Euros. On day 3 I emailed Auto Europe for reassurance but until then I was worried about going out in the car. I have used this same branch of Green Motion before and this had never happened. Car was very sluggish and probably not roadworthy but we only had a week, was tired on arrival and was too shattered to argue the toss. As always in Greece the car was not filled up with petrol, so it takes a guessing game to work out what you need to spend to get it back with the same amount of fuel. I never have this issue anywhere else apart from Greece. "

" I collected a fiesta on Saturday Evening and when I got to my Accommodation noticed that the front left indicator did not work so rang up Thrifty on Monday as could not get an answer on Sunday to be told to take the car to a Garage in the next village for repair but they could not repair it, so then was told to drive back up to Rhodes airport for the car to be changed, on arriving at the airport was told to go to a petrol station and fill the car up which cost me 17 euros of which the majority of the petrol that was used was driving around to get the car repaired/replaced, so for no fault of my own it cost me a good part of Monday and a cost of 17 euros to get a car that was not legal to be on the road, very disappointed as I was on my holidays. " There is no way I would ever use Goldcar again. When we arrived we were shown a brand new Fiat panda. We were told on numerous occassions that it was brand new and there was no damage. We took our torches and checked the car over. As we did the woman laughed and repeatedly told us it was brand new and had no damage. We did not check underneath the car only bodywork. The car itself was fine, had 1800km on the clock so was new but had been driven. We drove from rhodes to Lindos on one road of excellent quality, parked in a secure hotel car park and returned via the same road. On returning the vehicle, the man checking the car went straight underneath and pointed to some damage. He clearly knew where to look as be went straight there. There was a big dint to the undercarrage below the passenger side door. We explained that we had not done this as it would have been very obvious. We were again repeatedly told the car was new by the same lady and made to pay €200. When we continued to dispute this we were told that the full hold amount of €1200 would be taken as they again laughed. This was clearly a scam as they knew exactly whete the damage was and were very insistant that the car was new. We will now always check underneath the car and will never use Goldcar again. " Unscrupulous and NOT customer orientated. Upon arrival I was bombarded with info about needing to take out their additional insurance. I did not require it, as I had my own, then shuffling of papers. I believe this was to change car as I had my own insurance. We were shown the car, no body map with existing damage was provided, we had to point out all existing damage. It was a significant amount. No help was provided just the assistant writing down what we stated. After finishing map, which took sometime we had to sign for the car being warned that anything noted on return would be charged. When driving out of the compound onto road leading to dual carriageway we noticed a chip in the windscreen, we turned around when possible and reported the damage, it was recorded rather unenthusiastically on the car damage map. We drove directly to our hotel (4.30 p.m.) on arrival and unpacking the boot noticed a dent in the roof. Now either we missed this on inspection or (as I suspect, but with no proof) it was done whilst we were finalising our paperwork. We took photo, but because of all the hassle we had had previously decided to wait until we returned the car to show this damage. Oh how wrong we were! Car was OK to drive but really struggled on inclines, very pleased we did not break down during the two weeks. Upon return, we were told, after an inspection which clearly aimed towards known damage, that we had to pay for the damage - the dent and another small scratch. I disputed this to no avail. Yes I had signed for the car, no I had not damaged it, it was damage I had not recorded. Thus my insurance is paying for an observational mistake not a driving error. This can be summed up by the assistants statement that - Why are you worried, you have insurance! Dreadful attitude. I was then told very clearly by the manager that no problem would have occurred had I taken out their insurance. To compound my sense of unscrupulous behaviour I was refused access to the previous car damage maps - so that I could check condition of car according to their records, very suspicious. I am claiming from my insurance having explained all this to them, they have agreed to consider the case, not to pay just consider! "

" I was asked to inspect a white hire car, under a flood light , at 10.30pm local time. During the inspection I found 3 minor defects in the condition of the vehicle. However.....when returning the vehicle, the young Goldcar employee almost instantaneously spotted a further 2 defects. The 2 additional defects were imperceptible to see in daylight, and towards evening were impossible to see. I am able to provide photographic evidence to support this. As a result, they charged my credit card 250 euros for each defect, and I believe that I am the victim of a confidence trick. I believe that these were existing defects on the vehicle when I first inspected it, but they were impossible to see in the floodlights at night. I believe that this probably isn't the first time that Goldcar have carried out this confidence trick, and I would like you to establish whether this hire vehicle has been subject to similar claims in the past. I made this booking through moneysupermarket.com and I will also be raising my concerns with them. "

" First of all finding the person to tell me where to go at the airport to wait for the transport to green motion was near impossible. After 40 minutes we did get the transport. Once at the the Green motion office I was given the hard sell for extra insurance that I had already purchased online. When I refused Green Motion then decided to find a "late fee" of £25 because they had to keep the office open for everyone turning up. "

" 1) We provided our flight details and an estimated arrival time of 20.30. Our flight was delayed by approx. 30 mins. When we reached the arrivals hall in the airport it took us 5 mins to find the Green Motion rep because I suspect he had temporarily left the area to attend to other customers. We were shuttled to the GM office about 10 mins from the airport. We were charged a late pick-up fee of EUR25 because we arrived at the GM office after their 'normal' closing time of 21.00. I think this is a little unfair. 2) Although the website provides a photo of a VW Passat for our rental group there was no evidence that they had any of those models. We were given a Toyota which had done more than 33k km. We expected better. "

Many car companies can reserve a deposit on Visa Debit, but this was not the case of your partners. My extra insurance that I have purchased online at the time of booking has been wasted by me being forced to purchase a full local insurance. I will never use your site again. "

" At pick up we experienced a lot of pressure to make additional insurances. We didn't do this, as I never do and I am a good driver with 36 years driving without any accident. At return they found a bump on the underside of the car and made me pay € 420 for it. And I never caused this bump! I think it was already there but at pick up it was dark so I was unable to see the bump. I think it's a trick they try on every client that doesn't accept the extra insurances. "

" I have been reserving cars through Auto-Europe for over 10 years and and have never been disappointed by the quality of the cars , their flexible pricing and excellent customer service. One suggestion would be more competitive with the Excess insurance pricing which seems high compared to independent insurers. If the price was better I would use Auto - Europe , but at the moment the difference is too great This is not a big enough issue to stop me using Auto - Europe , and I will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. " Overall good service and car reasonably OK although a little old with 53K on the clock I thought. One area of confusion that was not properly explained on the booking service was the requirement upon collection at Rhodes to take both a credit card machine electronic payment and also a old manual style swipe of your card details to the value of 895 Euros!! This they tried to explain was for any damage waiver insurance but myself and the person waiting in the queue behind me both thought we had booked this all inclusive when we selected Auto Europe from the list on the website- There was no issue with the car luckily but I was not happy upon collection and it would deter me from using them again unless there is a proper explanation before. This is not something I have had to do at any other country as I have always checked it was not required when booking; there appreas a problem with how this is communicated between the website site selection of Auto Europe and Enterprise as the agent in Rhodes that needs addressing- particularly when you read so many horror stories IF a problem does arise!! Whilst in Rhodes I could not open my emails until a couple of days later.
