Also, fuel tank was meant to be full (at pick-up) to full (at drop-off), but I was given it with 1/4 full at pickup and was told to return with similar at drop-off; it is not easy to gauge how much to refuel as the drop-off day approaches, and may end up over-filling so losing money. Of note, this was showing incorrectly on the hire-agreement - I have photo at pickup to prove this. Lastly, the vehicle had high mileage (~146000km) and during the hire period presented some technical issues with error codes appearing on the dashboard; counter staff did not even ask whether everything was OK with the vehicle during the hire period. Car not best condition, high mileage, oil service warning kept flashing up (we emailed them and was told to ignore), many dents. "
" Our rental was from Thessaloniki airport. The only instructions we received were that we would be 'met at arrivals'. No one met us, waited around a while inside and outside, asked around and was advised to walk to the Drive office in the other terminal, asked around again and told there was a shuttle meeting point outside that all rental companies use. Walked back and after finding the local helpline number and calling we finally got picked up about a hour after arriving. Chaotic and disorganised! "

" I was very pleased with this car rental and the services of Goldcar. A member of Goldcar staff was at the airport to pick me up within minutes of my arrival. Both the check in and check out procces were very smooth / efficient and completed within minutes. Contrary to bad experiences with recent car rentals in Greece, Goldcar did not have any issues with me not accepting any additional insurance and/or the credit card produced for the payment of the deposit. The rental come with re-assurance of road assistance albeit at an extra cost (only) if it was to be required. Finally, I was offered an upgrade from EDMR to CGMR that I accepted; unfortunately, the SUV I issued proved to be a mixed pleasing as it was more comfortable/spacious to drive but more difficult to find large enough parking spaces to park it. " Originally was suppose to fly in to Thessaloniki, but problems at Stansted airport meant that we missed our flight so had to fly in to Preveza. The original car we hired from Discover cars wanted to charge us an extra 400 euros plus taxes to change airports and have the car delivered to Preveza. So cut a long story short we hired another car from Thessaloniki from Union cars which was spot on. Even better service as we could drop the car off in parking 6 for our early flight home. "

" Centauro, The car rental company that keeps on giving. Following an devious charge €360 from the Thessaloniki office, see previous post, the office made two credit card charges for the "door damage". One for €114 and one for €244. The first one was the fuel deposit which was used towards the "damage" and the second was for the remaining amount. This is has caused a problem with my accounts and with my insurance, as both need to see a single charge from € to £. Neither the local office nor the head office in Spain were willing to debit my card with and make a single charge. Adding to that the head office ensured me that there is not an issue with the double charge, dismissing legal accounting requirements that exist in both UK and Greece. Advice, if you rent from Centauro, and you have an "accident", and you have your own insurance, do not accept to use the fuel charge towards the deduction due to damage. The charge MUST be from the deposit or a completely new charge. And don't forget to take a private on a Centauro insurance!! "

Avoid Review of Centauro Rent a Car Reviewed yesterday I had used Centauro Thessaloniki Car rental numerus time in the past and I could only describe their service, up to this point, very good. Up on my arrival to collect the vehicle on the 1st of January 2024 customer service tried to force sale to me a Centauro CDW insurance which would cost 2 times the cost of the rental. The customer service representative used arguments that were not applicable to the vehicle. For example, accidental damage to the alloy wheel which the vehicle did not have. Up on my return to drop of the vehicle, 2/2/2024 @ 16:30 the same customer service representative was very eager to find scratches and faults to the vehicle. He has raised damage "incident", a number of door chips found on the driver's door edge. Considering the length of the rental, 24hr, and the place where the vehicle was parked during the duration of the rental, private covered car park 50 km form the city (I have access to another vehicle and the car rental is only used for traveling to and from the airport to the place of my stay), it would be impossible to have the door damaged. The customer representative also refused to provide a detailed description of the fault in the incident report, his details and he was eager to charge me €360 for the damage. I have been renting vehicles in many countries both for pleasure and business and from many different car rental companies but I never experience such behavior that can only be described as vindictive and totally unprofessional. As a result of this extremely poor service, I will withdraw all existing rental bookings with Centauro, and I will also make sure that all future business and personal rentals will not be made with Cantauro. My advice, either get a total CDW from Centauro for the extraordinary amount of €50 euro per day or find another car rental company. There are many in the area that will be happy to have your business. "

" Although i have been hiring car from Centauro for years, this is the worst experience I ever had. I usually collect my car after 22:30 because of my flight to Thessaloniki. The collection was the usual stuff. They gave me the contract and after a quick look aroung the car, I did not see any damaged panels to further report. The bad lighting did not help... Upon my return, I positioned the car as close to the main building as possible and under their external lights. Upon inspection, the staff told that there two scratches and asked me for photos when I collected the vehicle. I pointed out to them, that their contract notes to report to them any damage, but the two tiny scratches they were pointing out they do not classify as damage neither could be seen under the poor lighting conditions at 22:30 at night, for me to report. Nevertheless, they failed to provide themselves any kind of photographic evidence that the scratches were not there when I collected the car. It is obvious because I did not have a full insurance with them, and the car was going back to FIAT in a few weeks time,it was easy for them to blaim me for those pre-existing scratches! They charged me €900 for that! In addition, their main offices have not provided me with any documentation of the cost/charges! The worst service I have ever received! I used to be think very highly of Centauro and I took pride in returning their vehicles in the same condition I collected them, but this experience made me feel extremely dissappointed, robbed and unfairly treated, as those tiny scratches had nothing to do with me! Very sad situation indeed! I now know that their operating standards changed and that they are trying to pray on unsuspected loyal customers, hence I will be very weary in the future. Of course I am disputing those charges with my CC company and I hope that all will end well and I will have the money they stole from me back... "

" Even before I collected the car I had some concerns about the attention this company pays to details. It seems they have failed to update their terms and conditions now that the UK is no longer in the EU. The terms say they require an Informational Driving Permit for licences issued outside the EU. However, in reality, they don't. This meant that we went to the trouble of getting passport photos and documents to obtain an IDP which was never required. This situation was especially frustrating because before traveling I emailed autoeurope to double check if an IDP was actually required. In reply Pedro Ferreira said it was a requirement and that if we didn't have one we should cancel our booking or change the driver. I just wonder how many customers from the UK just cancel because of this simple oversight by Abbycar. All they need to do is update their terms to reflect current legislation - UK drivers do not need an IDP to drive in Greece or anywhere else in the EU. "

" I went with Avis as I had a bad experience with a previous car hire. I paid twice as much than going with a lesser-known firm thinking that they would be more professional and provide me with peace of mind. This was our first trip since my 4yr old son was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes two years ago and I needed this trip to be a positive experience. After a delayed flight we arrived late at Thessaloniki Airport. My son's condition means that we must monitor his blood glucose levels constantly and medically treat him whenever required as his condition means if he is not treated immediately, it can be fatal. Our delayed flight landed approx. 23:45 because of the delay. We had been travelling since 10am. My son required medical treatment on landing. We also had to wait until the last people had picked up their luggage as our child seat had been misplaced. I wasn't concerned about the car hire as I had chosen Avis above others because they were open past midnight and they had asked for the flight number on booking. When we got to the desk for Avis - not in the Terminal building I had been led to believe and the signage was terrible - It was midnight. The gentleman behind the desk immediately tried to upsell me to a larger car which wasn't very pleasant. We were tired, concerned for our son and had a 4hr drive ahead of us. The Avis Counter Staff continued to run through the contract seemingly annoyed it was booked through Autoeurope. Nothing was very clear, and he seemed irked that I wasn't taking their insurance products which I'd booked through Autoeurope. By the time we got to payment he then informed me there would be an extra charge due to the time of collection being past midnight!! It was six minutes past midnight, and we had already wasted so much time trying to be upsold! I was perplexed as to why there would be an extra charge. They knew there had been a delay. I tried to explain having to wait for our luggage and how we had to treat our son but none of this seemed to matter. Avis seemed only interested in getting more money out of me that what I had already paid Autoeurope. We ended up in quite a row which upset my son and I ended up having to pay the extra as otherwise we were all stuck in Thessaloniki airport 4 hours from where we needed to be. He ranted that the desk should have been closed (contradicting what was on the Autoeurope website when I booked) slamming down a sign on the desk. He continued to rant about me having to complain to Autoeurope if I had any issues. I needed to remove my family from the situation as everyone was getting upset. I was with a party of 4 other families. All of whom had booked through other companies. None of them were charged extra for arriving after midnight. None of them were pushed into upsell - in fact all of them were given cars from the higher bracket!! I couldn't believe the treatment I received from Avis. I agreed to the payment and asked for the car to be readied quickly asking the Avis member of staff to stop arguing with me. We took the car and got on our way. The car was fine until the day we were returning. Out of all the four cars we hired mine was the one that experienced a puncture. The tyre had split and there was no spare in the car. The puncture repair kit was completely unsuitable. I ended up having to use the emergency line to organise rescue. Whilst this happened the communication was difficult and if our flight home had not also been delayed, we would have likely missed this flight. As it was, we got the car returned and the hand back all went ok. The final bill was higher than I what I booked through Autoeurope which I found annoying. Overall, I won't be using Avis ever again. It was such a disappointing experience when I was expecting the exact opposite. Everyone else had a wonderful experience, enjoying bigger and better cars whilst paying half of what I did. I had a very upset family all of whom still mention the angry Avis employee. When we returned to the airport my son did not want to go into the airport as he recognised it from the week earlier being a such an upsetting experience. I've been a loyal customer of Autoeurope for several years. Sadly, this experience will inevitably make me question using them again. Not through any fault of Autoeurope but because of the difficulty it caused using a third party and having Avis use that to wiggle out of any responsibility "

" Hi, you need to change the meeting point/pickup instructions. Currently, it says meeting point is the arrival hall in the SKG airport. But this is NOT true. The meeting point is apprently outside the building and in front of Car Park 5. I had to wait 30-minutes in the arrival hall until the communcation with the car rental office was established. Mind it, it was 00.15am when I was waiting for the car rental representative to arrive in the arrival hall. The airport was absolutely empty, and noone else was in the building at that time. The car rental company said that it told you this before, but it hasnt changed. " I was very disappointed to be told that I could no longer cancel my rental as we had entered the 48h period. A full lockdown was announced for northern Greece that morning and I would not be allowed to travel as movement outside the metropolitan area was no longer allowed. Regardless I was told by staff at Auto europe that a cancellation was not longer possible. "

However I was not allowed to cancel within 45 hours of my rental as I was told the 48 hour period had passed. When I called the desk at Europcar I was told there was nothing that could be done as the rental had gone through a broker (Auto Europe). I was also told they did not hold a reservation in my name. I don't know who has the ability to cancel these reservations and whether the booking was actually paid for by AutoEurope. What I do know is that due to the exceptional circumstances of full lockdown this charge should have been waived. I had no choice whether or not to travel. "

In my first booking they never showed up to collect me at the airport which left me without a car for half a day and loaded with extra costs . They never apologised. So many scrapes and dents on the bodywork ,l nearly refused the car but then thought they would never be able to blame me for any damage ( took photo's just in case ). " From the the very start Green Motion failed. Stating airport collection the car was in fact 5 kms away and not at the airport. The staff were scheduled to collect us at 1 pm but did not arrive until 2pm. Then they had to get several passenger groups into the transfer vehicle meaning some had to leave family members behind with luggage while the customer drivers were taken to collect the cars. For me by the time I got back to the airport and collected my wife and luggage we were nearly two hours behind schedule. No apology or interest from the staff. They simply acted for their own convenience rather than the customer. We had the basic budget car and it was dirty (seat stained), the driver rear view mirror was not working properly, and while the indicator showed a full tank, it was actually about 4 litres off full and after the first 5 kms the fuel guage went to the notch below. All in all a poor experience. We wanted to keep the cost low, but we got less than we paid for in our view. Shame, but it didn't spoil our hols! "

" I was charged a £35 cancellation charge with Autoeurope as had to book a new booking which was also approcimately £40 more expensive than the original car I had booked. Autoeurope were helpful on the phone but should not expect to pay charges for the reasons noted under point 3. "

On arrival I queried whether I could use another valid credit card I had on me or 2 debit cards and they explained that this was impossible and they can only work with the card I booked in. " Quick and easy to make the booking, providing a variety of choices in various countries. However, the last experience was by far below our standards. When we hire a car for almost a month in Greece, during summer, we expect that the air-condition will work. Having two kids, a 10 months old and a 5 year old, you expect to have a fully air conditioned cabin. Unfortunately, we have found ourselves travelling with my family at temperatures of over 35 degrees Celsius. The outcome of the situation was for our holidays to be compromised, re-arranged and partly postponed. "
" The car's air condition didn't work and the clutch had a huge space until engaging the gears. The clutch problem wasn't a major issue because after a while you could adjust the way to drive it. However, not having air condition in Greece during summer, compromised our holidays. I have picked the car from the airport in the night and when I tested the air-condition I have raised the question (that the air condition might have a problem) with the staff. The staff assured me that is fine, but actually the the problem was there and the not very cold air was coming from outside. My home town (Kastoria) is located 230km from Salonika airport so it wasn't easy to return back and replace it probably. When we went to holidays to Sivota (another 250km away from my home town), the situation was unbearable, especially for the kids, and I called Surprice. I have been told that they can't do anything and if I want to get the car to a garage to fix it. I had a Toyota, so I went to Igoumenitsa city Toyota Service (30km from the place we went for holidays). The mechanics tried to locate the problem and couldn't find it (they said it might have been in the engine). The mechanics have called Surprice and have been told that a week before I rent the car, they infilled with Freon the system (i.e. for me that means there was a known problem from before and it wasn't fixed). After loosing half a day in the mechanics, we left with the air condition working, but with doubts. 3-4 hours later, it seems that the Freon all gone and we had been left in the extreme heat again. The result for our holidays to be compromised, re-arranged and partly postponed. Surprice staff was always polite and helpful. However, what happened with the air condition partly destroyed our holidays. "

" My only concern was that having purchased the enhanced Insurance Package with Auto Europe, Avis said this would not cover me duirectly for this booking and unless I took out their insurance I would have to reimburse them directly and claim later through Auto Europe. "
" Terrific performance by counter staff and vehicle handover crew. I booked a small SUV but was allocated a Mercedes A160 which had been scuffed in all four corners and a wing but drove brilliantly. Although, not exactly perfect for the remote beach access of Sithonia. This was still a great experience. Well done Avis! "

" We were kept waiting at the airport for over 45 minutes after plane landed. The car we were given , hadfaulty air conditioning and never worked. It was supposed to be full to full and 2/3 full. I mentioned the air con and was given a lesson about turning it on....I'm not stupid it didn't work! Car had 80000km on clock, clearly needs replacing. "

" From the first moment we arrived at the enterprise the lady who served us did everything possible to help us. She definitely made the extra mile. She was very friendly. Even when i told her that i have never drive an automatic before( the car she suppose to give me was an automatic micra) she short it out straight away and found another car to give me. Exceptional customer service and fantastic quality of cars. Also the guy who was there when we returned the car was very friendly and they served us in a very good and professional way. Definitely i will recommend and will rent again from there in future. "

I had sent a message the day after reaching destination with a request for a refund,but did not even get a reply. Overall would not recommend goldcar. Original rental was ₤123, but the additional extras sold came to an additional ₤242, which is outrageous? "

" I booked the car with a pick up time of 10pm, our flight was not delayed or early and the drive team were late to pick us up from the airport then when hiring the car we were required to pay an additional charge of 24 euros due to late pick up. We were very disappointed with the condition of the car. It was scratched and had lots of cosmetic damage. It wasn't very clean and nothing like the picture shown on the website. "

I was not pleased though because the fuel tank was not full when I collected the car which led to an unnecessary disagreement regarding the amount of fuel when the car was returned; i.e. the fuel indicator when I got the car was between 4/8 and 5/8 (but they recorded 5/8), I refueled the car just before returning it to the same level but they claimed that it was not 5/8, I am still not sure whether they will charge me for this.
