" A terrible experience. No customer service or help in our stressful and worrying situation. We were already in a stressful state after our plane having to turn back due to mechanical failure and this was made worse by the lack of help and assistance from your company. The scratched wheel only occurred because it was near midnight when I picked the car up and I had to drive in the dark in a foreign country which I had not planned on. The subsequent charges made are extorniate and not appropriate to the limited damage which occurred. "
" Unfortunately my plane from Manchester ( Flight no EZY2185) had to return to Manchester due to merchanical failure and an alternative flight was delayed by several hours.I rang the Auto Europe helpline number several times from Manchester (within the 2 hour pick up time span)to try and notify you of our problems.There was no help from your Customer Service staff and I was told that the hire company would not save the car for us. We were in a difficult situation and expected your staff to be more sympathetic and helpful. So much for any HELP! When our delayed flight finally arrived in Geneva there luckily still someone at the Hertz desk who was able to find a hire car for us. However, I was told that I had to pay 50 Euros for a ticket to drive on Swiss roads although when I paid my initial booking I was told that this was included in the hire price I paid!! To add insult I was also charged another 50 euros for picking the car up late , despite the reason for my delay being totally out of my hands. When returning the hire car I was then charged another £456. This was because a rear wheel was scratched, which I admit was my fault but also there was a tiny dent in the wheel arch which I had not caused. I accept a reasonable charge for repairing the wheel ( In Britain I would expect to pay around £100 maximum for a wheel refurbishment), but I have been charged somewhere in the region of £380 for the wheel repair alone which is daylight robbery! I cannot accept all these extra charges and the extortionate amount I have been charged for minor damage and want to know what you are able to do about refunding part of this extortionate charge. I also urgently require a receipt for the amount of CHF456.30 taken from my credit card on 30/04/24 in respect of additional charges made when returning my hired car. I was promised an e-mail receipt at the time but I have not received one. "

" Hi I hired the car for my sister in law to drive us while we were on holiday in the French Alps. I deliberately searched and booked a manual car as she had never driven an automatic. After a long wait at the Hertz counter we were given our paper work and the bay number where the car was parked. No mention of the fact that it was automatic was made. When we got to the car and realised the situation, my sister in law would not drive it. We went to the office in the car park to be told that it was the only car available. I felt we were been treated as if we were making an unnecessary fuss. The staff were very off hand about the situation. Eventually I was put on the car insurance and we left. A very stressful time . Also there were a few minor marks on the car which , when checked at our request , the girl was reluctant to record In return there was one very tiny Hertz space to park in I certainly would not recommend our experience. I have hired cars numerous times . Several times from yourselves and never had such a stressful time. "

The collection car park lacked natural light and the car was parked too close to a pillar. The mirrors were folded. We agreed the damage to a door but when returning the car the operative went straight to a mirror and found a scuff on the edge that I am being charged for. I'm suspicious and v unhappy about this, there is simply no way that damage occurred during the rental as we never parked near yo or caught any obstruction in the 24 hours we had the car. As with so many hire sites, its too dark and there is limited natural light to oick up scuffs etc. This, plus a few other recent hire issues with other providers around fuelling, has removed any faith I had in the suppliers "

" Even though booked with Thrifty, the car provided was Hertz. The car had a few marks on it at pickup which was fine, and when I asked the staff they showed my the ones on their pre-hire inspection form. However, their inspection was incomplete and did not include a small number of other scratches that I pointed out to them including a red paint mark on the door. They dismissed these additional things and said that they weren't interested in them. However, the front of the car was parked very close to the car in front and as a result I was unable to inspect the underside of the front bumper. Due to the layout of the pickup location I was unable to reverse the car out of the parking spot to inspect the front of the car as I would have blocked the very busy passageway. On returning the car, the staff said that I had caused a small mark to the bottom of the front bumper and a larger scrape to the underside which I denied as I had not caused them. They claimed it had been caused by me driving into snow, which was impossible as there wasn't any snow where we went. They have sent me a bill for over £800 for a small mark which could not be seen unless you were lying on the floor. "

" My business meeting finished early and I had caught an earlier flight to Basel to make sure that I could get to my hotel 2 hours drive away before it was shutting for the evening. On arrival at the Thrifty/Hertz desk, I was told that I couldn't under any circumstances take the car until the time it was booked for; even tough they had cars available and the car would still have been returned within the one day rental that I had booked. They wouldn't even let me upgrade and take a more expensive car straight away. The best they could do was let me have the car half an hour before the time it was booked for. They made me go away and wait for 2 and a half hours til I could return half an hour before the booked time. This was despite me telling them that the hotel that I was trying to get to 90 minutes drive away would now be shut. The clerk had to talk to the hotel and arrange for them to hide a key in a mailbox in order for me to get into my room. NOWHERE IN THE T&C'S DOES IT SAY YOU CAN'T TAKE THE CAR EARLIER THAN BOOKED. I understand if there were no cars available because I was early, but this wasn't the case. The clerk insisted this was company policy and refused to help me out in anyway - until 30 minutes before the booked time. I have use Auto Europe many times for booking car hire an both business and personal and have never had this as an issue - ever before. "

Booked online but payment was processed over the phone with absolutely no mention of using a credit card to pick up the car. I would've brought mine along if I'd had known. " 30 minute wait at the service desk. Vehicle booked wasn't available and apparently my reservation wasn't in the system. Reservation was for a 7 seat full size van. After a further 30 minute wait at the desk, a Toyota Land Cruiser was made available which wasn't large enough to seat all 7 occupants and luggage. Staff were unhelpful, unapologetic and frankly didn't seem to care. "

" I've got to say it was one of the worst experiences of organising transport in my life. The man at the counter in Geneva airport needs a lesson in customer service and to know it's fairly rude to insult your paying customer in French. After finding out they were unable to help me, I was left stranded in Geneva with no refund as they refused to help there and then. Added to this I had little funds to pay for another car and had to cross the border to the French side. Where a friendly and helpful man from Europcar got me on my way. I cannot stress how disappointed and unhelpful the whole experience was. And I can comfortably say I will never hire from Thriftys again. "

" Booked within 24 hours of hire with debit card, was then told I had to have the credit card paid with when picking up the car even though I read a whole section on your website saying yoy "have years of experience renting hire cars without a credit card.... I also. I was then I could not cancel it because it was longer 24 hours before the pick up time but seeing that I booked it less than 24 hours before the pick up time this would have always been impossible. So was in fact no way I could get the hire car and have not been refunded. Not a happy customer! "

" This is Hertz's problem and not that of AutoEurope. The thrifty desk at the airport was closed so we dealt with Hertz. The staff at the desk were fine and the car was very good, it was just the pick up staff that were incompetent and very unhelpful. "
" We had booked a car seat but on arrival at the pick up we were told that the seat was in a Hertz van parked beside the office. Unfortunately the battery for the key to the van was dead and it took 50 minutes for them to jump start the van and get the car seat out. Meanwhile we were waiting in the cold and our baby was getting more and more distressed. The staff seemed to think this was a normal occurrence but both my child and my mother were sick afterwards. "

If I had made the booking with Hertz there would be no charge. It seems unfair as it is exactly the same office. "

" It was difficult to inspect the car (black) for damage because of poor lighting in the parking garage at ZRH airport. On our return, there was a delay because the luggage cover in the boot (trunk) was "missing". In fact, it was never there when we picked up the car and we didn't think it was provided because the back windows were tinted. This caused a delay when we returned the car. The operative was polite but somewhat abrupt although we were given "the benefit of the doubt" in the end. We felt we had done something wrong although we hadn't. "
