    Celebrate Bastille Day

    Today the French celebrate a public holiday, now to most of us that just means a day off work, however Bastille Day is an important date in French history and a grand celebration all across France and other parts of the world!

    Here's a brief run down of the history of Bastille Day: 14th July 1789 French citizens gathered together and stormed the gates of Bastille fortress-prison. This is recognised as the first steps towards modern France creating the values of liberty and equality, the French Revolution!

    On the eve of Bastille Day it would be hard to find a village, town or city that hasn't already kick started the celebrations with fireworks and dancing. In Paris there is a parade along the Champs Elyses and the Eiffel Tower is illuminated with a stunning firework display.

    The day is only a public holiday in France however you can enjoy celebrations around the world, you can join the party at:

    If you are spending the day in France you should learn French national anthem, 'La Marseillaise,' wear blue, white and red, the colours of the flag and wear comfy shoes as your in for a long day and night!
