" The insurance charges in Spain , which are presented as mandatory of 230 euros for a 10 day rental are extortionate. These figures should be made clear beforehand by auto europe as agent as more reasonable extra insurance can be purchased in UK beforehand, seems deliberate collusion by Auto Europe. When a car rental is sold as collect full , return full you do not expect to be charged 107 euros for this fuel AND then find the tank 3/4 full! Supposedly this amount gets refunded eventually but still leaves a very bad taste, a 225 pound rental actually costs 500 pounds, or potentially 2000 euros if you dont take the insurance and some other driver scratches the car. Caveat emptor with these companies. "

" We had issues with Goldcar in Barcelona a few years ago. It seems (from talking to other renters) that this is a common ploy. Reasonably priced cars but fraudulent identification of damage that was pre existing. We will never use Goldcar again. "
" The collection was fine although the vehicle had quite a lot of damage on it. We noticed other damages and were advised to 'take a picture'. On return, the operative checking the car in said that there were a number of new areas of damage that would be 'bad news for us'. We pointed out that there was significant damage on the car shown on the check out sheet but that we felt it had£be been comprehensive. He said without proof we would have to pay for these damages and was very unhelpful. Fortunately, I had a video of when we collected the car and it showed the damage that he was insisting were new areas of damage. He very begrudgingly agreed but was obstinate and difficult. Not a good service or experience. "

I think he thought maybe I had damaged it which was not the case. "

" You need to take their shuttle bus/van as their location is on the other side of the motorway. So...no walking option. The suttle stop is at the end of the airport at Zone 5-Left on exit doors and follow the signs. Shuttle has no ClickRent logo. You need to ask around where they wait.... Despite the fact we booked with AE full cover (FULL PROTECTION WITH EXTENSIVE COVERAGE).....on pick up we were asked to pay additional £340 or they must block £1200 for full cover. So, we ended up with £340+200 in case we loose the key.....According to them such lose is a costumer negligence and not covered. :) The guy said they don't appreciate any insurance paid in advance over 3th party companies li AE. We use AutoEurope since 2018 and we never had issues around the globe till now. Also, they have advertised Alpha Romeo Giulietta, but we ended up with dead horse 1L Ford Focus. They don't even have any Alfas in their garage. :) The cheapest rental car in Spain has turned into the most expensive weird experience... Make up your mind when you search for cheapest options. "

" I did not take out Full Protection cover because, when I did this last time, I was told by the car rental company that I would still be charged for any damage or theft, and would then have to apply for a refund from AutoEurope, which sounded very annoying and time consuming. I took out the company's own Full Protection instead. "

" Upon arrival at the airport, we found that the office in the terminal building was closed and we were redirected to the office in the car park. There was a short wait to be seen which was not an issue as we were not in a hurry. When I got to the desk, the first thing that occurred, was that I was pressured into taking an upgrade vehicle at extra cost. I declined the offer. I was then pressured into taking the same upgrade but at a discounted price. I declined this offer as well and said I just wanted the vehicle that I had booked. I was then pressured into taking additional insurance cover at an extra cost. This was uncomfortable for me, as I now felt I had to accept some sort of upgrade or the vehicle collection was going to take far longer, potentially until I did accept some sort of additional charge. I reluctantly agreed to pay an additional that would reduce the excess (if I had any form of accident or experienced any type of damage) to €100. The cost of this, once the fuel charged had been reimbursed, was about £90 and being a safe and experienced driver, I didn't actually need it in the end. But the up selling pressure and the risk doubt that is put upon the customer at this point is unnecessary, particularly after a long journey to get to this point. Having finalised the arrangements and digitally signed a very long and wordy contract (that I am sure nobody reads as it would take too long), my credit card was processed. The ordeal of the administration now over, I was handed the keys and given the parking bay number. Upon arrival at the bay, we found a vehicle that was not even close to the one we had booked. We had booked a two door Fiat 500, a nice little compact car, but were given a Peugeot Rifter, a very much larger 7 seater vehicle that more resembled minibus/taxi. We went back to the office to complain, only to be told that this was the only vehicle they had to offer. If this was the case, I suspect that this was the same vehicle that I had almost been pressured into taking as an upgrade. No staff came out to hand over the vehicle and so we took numerous photos of minor damage around the vehicle. We then set off on our journey. The return and drop off was much simpler and a staff member did come out to check the vehicle and fuel level, pointing out a chip on the windscreen that was there when we picked up the vehicle. We advised him that we had photos of the vehicle at the time of collection and he let the matter drop. Overall, the experience was not as simple or as pleasant as it could be. The staff were very pleasant and helpful, but the up selling experience was disappointing and we could have done without it, as I resent paying an extra fee that I didn't need. Plus I would have liked to drive away the vehicle that I had booked. "

As a client I was expected to inspect the dark coloured vehicle in a dimly lit underground car park. Given that the online reviews of Thrifty that I was able to read were not very complimentary extra effort had to be made to identify each and every external fault on the car. The staff response seemed to be that it would be ok. There was no apology for the state of the car. Internally it was clean but as an English speaking driver it was frustrating to have the display in German and I never did find a way to change it to English. Our plans changed and the vehicle was returned 24 hours early. I was not expecting a refund but was disappointed that we were still charged to top-up fuel. Overall given the state of the vehicle we will look for a different supplier for our next hire. "

On the third day it was clear that I was being detained in meetings so I rang to extend by one day. I was simply told that it was impossible, that I would have to come in to the office to sign a new contract (impossible since I was a nine-hour drive away) and that if I did not, I would be driving for the next day without insurance and that I would be fined when I brought the car back, which is exactly what happened. " The vehicle we rented from auto Europe was a Skoda Octavia or similar estate car . However, on arrival at clickrent Valencia the vehicle they had for us was a Ford Focus Estate. A Ford Focus and Skoda Octavia are not of the same category. The Ford Focus was a very basic model and nowhere compared to a Skoda Octavia. As far as I understand a similar vehicle to a Skoda Octavia is something like a Vauxhall or Opel Insignia. Not only was it not the vehicle that I was expecting to receive but also on arrival at clickrent Valencia, I was offered a very old car with lots of damage, high mileage and was in particularly dirty state. The hadn't been cleaned from the previous rental and so I refused point-blank to take the car. The rental staff then offered me another Ford focus which also hadn't been cleaned properly so we had to wait another 30 minutes before we could leave with our vehicle. "

" Despite the shuttle journey, it is a quick to get to the office. There is a petrol station only 200 meters from the office (in the direction of the airport). It may not be quite clear for the first-time user where to get the shuttle (they now stop in the middle of the road near taxis at drop-off/departures). "

" My advice to anyone considering hiring form this company is to give wide berth unless you are prepared to pay for full excess cover. It is important for anyone considering hiring for this company that they put the onus on the renter to find every single minute scratch and scuff damage and record it on camera - or they will charge you for any minute damage they find on returning the car. As a frequent traveller I have hired many cars from all the main companies and many smaller companies like OK Rent a Car. I might have just been lucky but this is the first time I have experienced what seems to be the classic insurance claim scam for minor alleged damage that any other major company would not have given a second glance to (the alleged damage was a tiny 3mm square chip on the bumper). Firstly, the car was provided dirty (covered in dust and dirt) and OK Rent a Car expected me to minutely exam the car for damage and photograph it if I found any as evidence. It was virtually impossible to find all the damage due to the state the car was supplied in, but despite this I did manage to find some damage and duly recorded this on camera. On returning the car they managed to find an additional tiny mark on the rear bumper (for which they found suspiciously quickly – as if they knew it was there under the dirt). Incredibly this amounted to 200 Euros of damage! They then went on to tell me this would not be any problem as AutoEurope would pay me back without any questions as I had full cover with them. They then looked very embarrassed when they realised I did not have the excess cover with AutoEurope. "

I was charged 140 for a full tank of diesel which allows for apprx 1000 kilometres of driving , I explained that I would not need anywhere near this as I was visiting very elderly parents in Gandia , I offered to bring the vehicle back with a full tank of fuel but I was told this was not possible. When I returned the vehicle there was well over half a tank of fuel left showing a range of over 700 kilometres. I pointed this out to GoldCar, they did not inspect, said not to worry and I would not be charged - so far I have not. I, like the vast majority of clients, strongly object to the fuel policy which many Spanish operators have adopted, which is to be forced to pay a highly inflated price for a full tank of fuel and told to "bring it back empty". In my case I used 1/2 tank for my requirements, but was charged the extortionate sum of £85 - that's more than cost of a full tank in my Jaguar Sovereign in the UK !! Diesel in Spain is currently just under 1.4 euros per ltr so the tank of fuel should have cost about 63 euros. They charged me 87 euros. When I pointed out the discrepancy between the charge and the "FUEL POLICY" stated on their website the receptionist just shrugged her shoulders and said there is a 25 euro re-fueling charge! It's a shame it's is not stated on their website and they use this method to increase the rental price. "
