First used as an airfield for military purposes in the 1930s, Grenoble Airport saw its first commercial flights arrive and depart in December 1967, just a year before the Winter Olympics took place in Grenoble. At the beginning of this century it became the first French airport to be fully privatised and today it clocks up more than 500,000 annual passenger movements, many of them generated by low-cost carriers bringing visitors in for the winter skiing and snow/boarding season.
