Airport Information

Jersey Airport is the only airport on the island of Jersey. The airport was opened in 1937 with four grass runways and one small terminal. During the German occupation a hanger was added and concrete taxiways. In 1952 a concrete landing strip was added and the four grass runways were closed. A new terminal was developed in 1976 and further extended in 1997, with a new control tower being added in 2010. In 2014 the old terminal was set to be demolished due to safety and despite being considered a historical building. To date, the airport has one asphalt runway and hosts around 1.6 million annual passengers. Popular routes include Guernsey, Birmingham, Glasgow and London.

Where to pick up my car hire at Jersey Airport

As the only airport on the island, many visitors opt for a car hire at Jersey Airport for their onward journey and convenience. Some world-renowned car rental brands are located within the airport. These include Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz and many more. All available suppliers have in-depth knowledge and experience of the car hire industry and provide exceptional customer service and support. Car hire desks are in the airport terminal within the departure area. Those arriving should follow the signs from arrivals to departures. Vehicles are in the airport car park.

Before arriving at the supplier, make sure you must hand your driving licence, identification, car rental voucher and an International Driving Permit, if required. One of more credit cards must also be provided for the car to be released. The credit card must be in the main driver’s name and contain enough funds for a security deposit to be held on it. Fully inspect the vehicle upon pick-up, noting anything of concern on the pick-up slip and taking video and photographic evidence. Upon your return, get a member of staff to inspect the vehicle and sign it off as okay. Only when it is confirmed that the vehicle is in the same condition as when it left, will the deposit be released back onto the same credit card.

Terminals

The current airport has one terminal which contains all the necessary services for a safe and secure flight. Within the terminal a departure lounge, arrivals hall, check-in desks, baggage reclaim belts, gates, security screening and other facilities are provided. The terminal is modern and well-maintained, with a good flow for passengers and visitors alike. It can be very busy especially during the peak summer months, so we advise allowing plenty of time to get through security.

Airport Facilities

The airport contains all the necessary facilities and amenities for a pleasant visit and journey. A customer relations desk is in the terminal with trained staff that will deal with all enquiries and even provide a currency exchange service. Once past security screening, Café Ubé provides a wide selection of food and refreshments for those waiting for their flight. There are three ATM machines at the airport – two past security and one in the arrival’s hall. Other key facilities include a photobooth, chapel, executive lounge, smoking area, first aid desk, and a lost & found desk. There is a wide selection of shopping opportunities available on site from WHSmith to Maison & Jersey that sells local products. For clothing visitors can browse the Jersey Zoo store, and for jewellery the Jersey Pearl store is a great option. Special assistance is also provided for those that require it. Lastly, free Wi-Fi is provided throughout the airport terminal.

How to get to and from Jersey Airport

Many arriving opt to rent a car at Jersey Airport for convenience. For those that don’t, a taxi rank is available outside the airport terminal. Official taxis are metered and come in a variety of colouts – although plans are underway to standardise colours and dress code. We advise discussing your estimated fare before catching the taxi. A bus stop is available outside of the arrival’s terminal. Bus number 15 links the airport to Liberation bus terminal in central St. Helier. This service runs every 15-minutes except for on Sundays, where it runs every 20-minutes. Bus route 9 runs between St. Helier and La Greve de Lecq, stopping at the airport. Bus route 22 is seasonal and links St. Helier to l’Etacq. Both services run hourly.

Parking Tips

Located at the airport are two car parks – one is in front of departures and the other in front of arrivals. Both car parks are within easy walking distance from the terminal and have ample parking for both cars, motorbikes and for those who are disabled. A temporary disabled badge is available for pick-up at the customer relations desk. Those wishing to do so must firstly show their actual disabled badge. This will allow the user to use the temporary badge instead of their actual one – freeing it up to be used during their holiday abroad. A passenger drop-off area is provided outside the terminal. It is located outside departures and is time-restricted to short set downs.

There are designated parking bays for your car rental at Jersey Airport. Parking on the island however can be restricted at certain locations but generally it is free to park. Pay for parking will be signposted, and care should be taken to confirm that you are not parking in a residential area or within a commercial bay. Any fines received will be passed onto the hire car supplier and forwarded onto you. Often with an additional administration charge added.
