Car hire at Leeds Airport - Exploring Yorkshire in Style

Located in Yeadon, a small town a few miles north-west of Leeds city centre, Leeds Bradford Airport first opened in October 1931 as Yeadon Aerodrome. Operating today as a major international airport, it serves Leeds, Bradford and the wider Yorkshire region, including the city of York and the district of Harrogate. Catering for over 4 millions passengers a year, it is the largest airport in Yorkshire and today offers more than twenty destinations, the most popular of which are Dublin, Amsterdam, Belfast, London Heathrow and some of Portugal and Spain's top beach resorts.

The two dominant airlines serving Leeds Bradford Airport are Jet2 and Ryanair, although KLM, FlyBe and TUI also provide regular services, especially during the summer months. Many of the connections for long-haul flights are made via Amsterdam, including around six daily flights with Jet2 and KLM Cityhopper, London Heathrow (mostly with British Airways) and Paris CDG. There are several direct services to a number of other European cities with Ryanair, with routes mainly to and from European leisure destinations as there are no long-haul flights direct from Leeds Bradford Airport.

Leeds is a burgeoning tourist destination with a growing number of attractions, most within easy reach for those visitors who choose to book a car rental at Leeds Airport. The city has several excellent museums covering a wide range of subjects, including the very popular Leeds City Museum whose exhibits feature a meteorite, dinosaur droppings and a stuffed Bengal tiger. No visitor can resist the opportunity to do a bit of shopping in the city's famous arcades, most of which date back to the time of Queen Victoria. Another must is a visit to the Royal Armouries Museum to see the star exhibit - King Henry VIII's personalised suit of armour. The city also lies in close proximity to several areas of stunning scenery, such as the Yorkshire Dales, Peak District and the renowned Lake District, the latter located just over an hour's drive to the north-west.

    Airport Information

Ever since its inauguration in the early 1930s, Leeds Bradford Airport has been a major hub and an important catalyst for helping to develop Yorkshire and its surrounding areas. Located a very short drive from Leeds, its passenger numbers have grown significantly in recent years, which in turn has helped establish the city as one of the most popular tourist destinations in the north of England. This progress is set to continue with the blueprint for a new £150 million terminal currently on the drawing board, along with many other improvement plans over the coming years which will help cater for the 7 million or so annual passenger movements expected over the next decade.
