Car Hire at Malaga Train Station - Gateway to the Costa del Sol

Located in the south-western part of the city centre, Malaga Train Station is a major transport complex and the chief gateway for many visitors to Spain's popular Costa del Sol tourist region. Named in honour of the locally-born philosopher, María Zambrano, it is Malaga's central railway hub and offers direct connections to more than thirty key destinations in Spain and neighbouring France.

Situated on the Explanada de la Estación, it opened in 2007 as a Vialia-sponsored station on the site of the city's original 1863 station. Next door is Malaga's main bus terminal, the Estación de Autobuses de Málaga, and the railway station lies just 9 km (5 miles) from Malaga Airport (officially known as Aeropuerto de Málaga-Costa del Sol), which also has its own railway station.

The most populated city on the Costa del Sol, and the second-largest in Andalucia, Malaga is a thriving seaside destination with a lively night-life, some of the region's best tapas bars, many trendy boutiques and lots of interesting places to visit, such as the Picasso Museum (the great painter was born in Malaga in 1881).

With a car hire in Malaga you'll be spoilt for choice; there's the whole of the Costa del Sol to explore or you can head inland towards Seville and Córdoba for a taste of the real Spain. Another exciting option is a full-day's sightseeing trip from Malaga to Gibraltar where you can enjoy a leisurely lunch and visit some of its top attractions such as St Michael's Cave, a set of enormous cliffside caverns located inside the Rock.

How to get to and from Malaga station

Located in the city centre, the Estación de Malaga Maria Zambrano is a major transport hub and easily accessible for people looking to rent a car at Malaga Train Station and explore the Costa del Sol tourist region. It is situated right next door to Malaga Bus station and just 2 km from the port of Malaga, which is a major dock for international cruise ships all year round. Parking tips

Street parking is quite limited in Malaga city centre and the chance of finding somewhere to park for free is minimal. The best thing to do is find out where the municipal car parks are located before setting out. Try the car parks of Cervantes (located at Cl Cervantes, 2), Camas (Cl Cama, 20) or Tejon (Cl Tejon y Rodriguez, 5), each of which is centrally located with good access to many of Malaga's top tourist attractions. For those unfamiliar with driving in Malaga, planning ahead and knowing where to park ahead of your arrival will reduce stress levels and help avoid any altercations with the police. When driving a car rental at Malaga Train Station, it's worth knowing that there is a 10-minute drop-off bay in front of the station, but it often gets full at peak times. There is a large 24-hour car park located underneath the station which is very convenient for passengers waiting for trains as it only takes about five minutes from car to platform. An alternative is to park outside the city centre near the airport and enjoy a transfer service with meet and greet on return.
