Sitting at the foot of the Mount Vesuvius, Napoli has a rich history dating back to the eight century BC when the city was founded by the Greeks. Napoli has thrived throughout the ages under changing rulers and has become the cultural and economic hub of Italy. Naples is home to the oldest public non-sectarian university, which was founded back in 1224. The city is an open–air museum of fine architecture spanning over many years and styles; as such, it has become a popular tourist destination.
