Car Hire at Paris Orly Airport - Find your perfect rental

A car hire at Orly Airport (located just ten minutes south of Paris) is the best way to explore the city and all its attractions. As captivating as it is charming, Paris is a sensuous city of immense cultural importance that’s particularly popular among tourists for its abundance of magnificent buildings and centuries-old monuments, making it more photographed, explored and admired than most other places on the planet.

With its familiar skylines, iconic landmarks, expansive gardens and striking cityscapes, Paris is a tried-and-tested treasure trove for antique hunters, fine diners and lovers of stylish haute coutures whilst still being a city that operates on a human scale. Indeed, there’s much to see and do in this fabulous city and although it’s possible to enjoy the highlights in just two or three days, you’ll probably feel a need to keep going back for more.

Abounding with festivals, markets and bric-à-brac fairs, the graceful streets of Paris are filled with an urban buzz quite unlike anywhere else in the world, particularly away from the city centre in the quintessentially Parisian neighbourhoods of Montmartre, Marais, Belleville, Trocadéro and the capital’s famous Latin Quarter.

The Seine has been a navigable river since time immemorial and continues to breathe life into the place once identified by Julius Caesar as a good base from which to launch a campaign against the incumbent Gallic tribes.

For an acute sense of Paris’s chequered past, head for the imposing Conciergerie on the river's banks for a peek into the eerie cell of Marie-Antoinette and many of the other unfortunates who fell victim to the city’s ghastly guillotine.

The bold centrepiece of Haussmann’s pioneering city plan of twelve intersecting boulevards is the magnificent Arc de Triomphe, the ultimate symbol of Napoleon’s military ambitions. Equally iconic is the ‘Iron Lady’ (more commonly known as the Eiffel Tower), a popular place for marriage proposals and a fine example of intricate art nouveau architecture.

Other must-see Paris attractions include the Louvre, one of the world’s largest museums with its permanent collection of some 35,000 works of art and many priceless masterpieces, most notably the famous Mona Lisa. Likewise, the classic modernism of the Centre Georges Pompidou draws people from all over the world on account of its futuristic façade and richly artistic interior.

Reminiscent of a well-crafted sailing ship, the Louis Vuitton Foundation building (designed by Frank Gehry) added another precious jewel to the city’s glittering crown when it was inaugurated in 2014.

    Airport Information

Originally known as Villeneuve-Orly Airport, the airport first opened in 1932 as a secondary airport to Le Bourget. In World War II it was used by the occupying German Luftwaffe as a combat airfield, stationing various fighter and bomber units there throughout the occupation. Unveiled in March 2019, the airport’s state-of-the-art, all-in-one terminal building called Orly 1-2-3-4 is designed to accommodate the predicted increase in traffic in the coming years. The existing Terminal Ouest became Terminals 1 and 2, while the connecting building was transformed into Terminal 3. Terminal Sud was converted into Terminal 4 with a new junction having been built between the existing west and south terminals. With plenty of passenger space and an authentic Parisian shopping experience, Orly Airport's impressive terminal building offers enhanced levels of security and dedicated parking in close proximity to Paris's fast and efficient public transport services.

    Airport Facilities

Being the second-largest airport in France and one of the busiest in Europe, Paris Orly offers passengers an extensive range of on-site facilities and amenities, including free unlimited WiFi, dedicated PlayStation and multimedia areas, baby-changing rooms and a modern business centre. Besides offering a wider choice of restaurants, the redevelopment of the terminal building extended the shopping area with a much larger Duty Free shop and specific areas for buying perfumes, cosmetics and gastronomic items in an atmosphere comparable to a Parisian department store.

How to get to and from Orly Airport

Orly Airport gives direct access to the A106 motorway which connects with the A6, meaning that driving to Paris in your car hire at Orly Airport couldn't be quicker or easier. For passengers using public transport, travelling between Orly Airport and Paris city centre is fast with plenty of options available, most notably the Orly automatic shuttle which links with the RER B train line at Antony for quick rail access to the French capital. Another option is the efficient tram service between the airport and Louis Aragon station on Paris' Métro Line 7. There are numerous bus and coach services, such as the RATP Orlybus services direct to Place Denfert-Rochereau in Paris and Le Bus coaches to Place Charles de Gaulle via Gare Montparnasse. Additionally, the popular Albatran buses operate to various railway stations in close proximity to Paris city centre, while VEA runs direct shuttles to Disneyland Paris east of the city. Taxi ranks are located outside the Arrivals hall where only officially and clearly-marked taxis are allowed to pick up passengers. These taxis are easily identifiable by the light on the roof of the vehicle. If you are approached by people posing as taxi drivers after leaving the baggage claim area, you should decline their services and opt for an official taxi waiting in line outside the Arrivals building.

    Parking Tips

The number of parking spaces at Orly Airport has been greatly increased on account of the expanded terminal building unveiled in March 2019, with the existing car parks replaced by P, P2, P3 and P4a/P4b/P4c. In the city, parking on the streets of Paris can be challenging due to the lack of spaces and high volume of traffic, although many large municipal car parks cater for tourists in close proximity to many of the main attractions, including the Eiffel Tower.
