    Station Information

    Stuttgart Train Station has a long and very interesting history. The first train arrived there in 1846 and further routes were added a few years later. The present Hauptbahnhof was built between 1914 and 1928 with a striking 56-metre-high station tower, now a landmark building in the city centre.     In addition to the fact that it is currently being enlarged and upgraded, Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof is a very busy railway station with around 250,000 passengers passing through it every day. It has a large ticket hall, lots of shops, kiosks, eating places, bustling food hall with a great bar, newsagents, travel agents, airport transfer offices, café's, restaurants, bakeries, mini-markets and even a hotel.

    How to get to and from Stuttgart station

    Located in the city centre, Stuttgart Station is part of the ICE (Intercity Express), IC (Intercity) and EC (EuroCity) networks. It is the junction of the international north-south and east-west stretches and directly connected with 13 European capitals. Travelling to and from Stuttgart Airport couldn't be easier; you can get there on many of the city's railway services, including the S-Bahn (lines S2 and S3 with no changes necessary. The journey between Stuttgart Railway Station and Stuttgart Airport takes just under half an hour. In additin to several bus routes and the local tram services, the station is also very well connected by the U-bahn underground network.

    Stuttgart is a modern, well-organised city with plenty of parking options both in the centre and further out. Downtown is blessed with many large car parks offering safe and secure options once you have picked up your car hire at Stuttgart Station. For long-term parking, try Am Marienplatz (Marienplatz 8), Am Schlossplatz (Stauffenbergstrasse), Burgenlandzentrum (St. Pöltener Str. 29) and City Garage (Geschwister-Scholl-Strasse), all of which are located in easy reach of Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof. For shopping at the pedestrianised Königstraße (the longest high street in Germany), it is best to park at the Parkhaus Rotebühlhof or Theodor-Heuss-Platz close by, both of which are easily reachable from the station. Albeit restricted, on-street parking is possible in central Stuttgart at certain times of the day, with durations often limited to just an hour, so make sure you check the local street signs when parking in the city centre.
