This is the second time this has occurred and we were very thorough in inspecting and photographing damage. Last time we were charged 218 euros for a minute scratch that was only visible with a magnifier and torch. Staff said it was up to us to note damage. Another lady in the car park was given a car with a cracked windscreen which was not shown on her contract and following our advice she reported it and was given another car.Altogether 3 other people had problems so not a good record. Maybe they are relying on duping customers who don't take their full insurance cover,bad practice. "

" The only downside of the experience was that the person who had hired the car previous to me must have been a really heavy smoker, as the car absolutely stunk of cigarettes. It really got to the back of my throat and was really unpleasant. I had to go and buy a can of Febreze air freshener and a cloth. I had to spray it over the seats and wipe down the dashboard and anything plastic to get rid of the smell. I had to do this every day, otherwise the smell just came back. Apart from that, everything else was fine. "

" The service works very well but is not quite as described. A silver minibus collects you from the kerbside in the covered parking area in front of the departures area of Carcassonne Airport and takes you to Auto Europe who are based near the railway station in Carcassonne, the journey takes about 10 minutes. Staff are friendly and efficient. The car was fine. Their system is that they photograph the car and e-mail you the pictures immediately ( You'll probably still be there). On return you take the car back to the same location, photos are taken again and sent to you with the originals - from the same angles. Then they take you back to the airport. Uncertain about using them initially but wouldn't hesitate to use them again. They seem busy. "

" Pick up was a bit stressful as we were delayed and we hadn't realised that they didn't have an office at the airport but they had a gentleman waiting for us so it took a while to find each other. The member of staff was extremely patient with us and he stayed on late for possibly an hour after the shop should have shut especially for us and was very kind. It took about 45 minutes to return the car as there was only one person in the office dealing with three different families and trying to sort all our cars and drop us at the airport. " Voucher said collection and drop off was from departures. I queried this with AutoEurope before my holiday given I'd be arriving in 'Arrivals'. I was told, read the voucher, departures. On arrival, I went to departures. No one there. I went to the depot where the rest of the car hire companies operate out of. No one there. Rang AutoEurope and they attempted to put me through to Sicily By Car but there was no answer. The AutoEurope customer services lady told me she was just googling to try and find another number. She then asked me to walk back to the car hire buildling and ask Avis, Hertz etc. The other companies weren't helpful and so she asked me to put them on the phone to her and she'd speak Italian to them (my holiday was in France). Eventually she tried the first number again and this time Sicily By Car answered. They then sent someone to collect us from the airport but we had to be taken to their office downtown. A unmarked van just arrived in the car park and someone stood next to it. I had to go ask if it was for us but the lady didn't speak English. It took over an hour after we landed before we were picked up and taken to collect the car. The kids were fed up by this point. Drop off was also meant to be at the airport but it wasn't. I had to drop off at their downtown office. However, on arriving at just gone 1pm I found out they were closed until 2pm. My flight was 3.45pm making handover of the car and then 10min taxi to airport very tight. They shouldn't advertise as airport collection and drop off as that is not a service they provide. "

" Found staff member Mael to be only interested in up selling everything. Paid extra for increased insurance cover through auto europe prior to arriving but said it makes no odds and I'd have to pay euros 3k excess if any issues. Just kept trying to scare us into taking out his insurance cover, no doubt to earn him more commission. Left us with a bad experience and worried to actually use the car incase anything happened. Marks on car prior to driving off not all noted to had to video car and go back in and report which he then noted on our agreement. Watched him doing the same thing with another customer who he was trying to charge extras for. On dropping off the vehicle the female member of staff was the opposite and polite and professional. "

" The car I was given didn't correspond to the 'Class' I paid for. In fact, I paid for a compact option (in this instance for a Peugeot 308 or similar) but I was given a Renault Clio which is a class below. I explained my disappointment on my return to the staff at Alamo who said he was aware about these kind of issues and said would raise it with his manager and will come back to me but hasn't done so! Very disappointing. "

" I have used Auto Europe many times and have always been happy with the vehicle provided. This was the first time I felt the need to write something negative about the hire experience "
" The car we were given had a chip in the windscreen which had already started to create a crack about 1/3 across the front screen. The queue at the Europcar airport rental desk (servicing Keddy) was very long so we left to get some shopping and came back to the airport, hoping to sort something out. Although we returned 30 minutes inside advertised opening hours, the office was closed. As we were on a short break, we "managed" the situation by driving very carefully and not using the heater (having tried the heating once we saw that the crack started to expand). That said, we did feel that a car with this sort of problem should not really be considered suitable for hiring out. There were no issues when we returned the car, but the overall experience was disappointing. "

I have always found them to offer an efficient service and good value for money (although there has been a marked increase in prices recently throughout the market). The problem I encountered on this occasion seems to be related to National rather than Auto Europe. I would appreciate though if Auto Europe could contact National to help me resolve this problem. "

Reserved and paid for a rental car 4 months before planned trip On arrival at National car rental agency at Carcassonne airport discovered that there was a shortage of rental cars available. Ended up having to spend the night in a hotel at Carcassonne and catch 2 trains the next day to Perpignan to collect a rental car from National. Still waiting for a reply and refund from National for the cost of these unexpected expenses from this frustrating incident. This experience demonstrates poor management, poor customer care and communication on the part of this car rental company. "

" We booked and paid for 3 cars from yourselves. The night before we got a phone call to say one of the cars was unavailable but checked and assured us the other two was available. When we arrived at the airport we were informed that there was no cars available. The girl who served us was excellent and managed to find us a car, but unfortunately only one car was available so we had to go across to Europcar were we hired a car for 1051.82 euros. We could only get the one car so we was totally out of pocket(which I will be claiming back from yourselves), so instead of 3 cars we paid for we had to share with the Bell family to get around. I am extremely dissatisfied that my wife's licence was not accepted. A refund for the unused booking would encourage me to see Auto Europe in a different light. "

" When I returned the car there were no staff from Firefly on the premises so I left the key with another guy (who I think worked for Hertz. He said he would pass the key on. About an hour later I had a phone call which cut off before I could answer it but when I rang the number back it transpired to be Firefly. They seemed annoyed that I hadn't made a new booking but when I explained to Kevin (who was the guy on the phone and who was very helpful) he accepted in the circumstances it would be OK. I suspect this was because there had been no problems or damage to the car. I suggest that in circumstances like this the rental company should be automatically prepared to extend the hire without a very time consuming visit to their office. "

One minor point which prevented the whole experience being perfect was a slight misunderstanding between previous damage to the left/right sides of the car. Thee appears to be a little confusion as to which side is 'left' i.e. facing the vehicle or from inside the vehicle. It would be better to use neutral terms such as drivers side passenger side. However, all was resolved quickly - but only because I had taken photos at the time of rental. A minor hiccup and soon resolved but one which could have resulted in an unpleasant argument had I not take the photo. "

" When you ask for a quote you give the times you will collect and return the car. based on those times you have a quote. When you get to the airport you do not expect another days payment because the time on the quote is into ten minutes of another day. Neither were we early to pick up or late to drop off , in fact we were early to drop off and had to stand in a queue for thirty minutes. I found both the assistants abrasive in their attitude towards me as an English person and spoke to the French in preference behind me! However I was grateful, eventually, to the young man who sorted the financial details out. "

" On picking up the car we were told that the full fuel tank had been billed to us, at a cost of €79, and that therefore we were advised to return the car with as little fuel as possible. When we returned it we were told that this was not the case and we had to fill the tank otherwise we would now be billed the €79. Fortunately there was plenty of time to do this, but it was a little distressing to think that we might have been overcharged. It was also apparent that several other people returning their cars had been told the same thing. Evidently there is a staff training issue here. The car had a damaged rear quarter, which was unsightly, but it was otherwise fine. "

My flight was delayed so the counter staff were only needing to process passengers from my flight. There was only one member of staff on duty and although he worked as fast as possible, with 4 people in front of me, I was waiting for around 30 minutes and that is unacceptable. The hand back on the Tuesday was very fast and two members of staff were present - really require at least this level of staffing on a Saturday too please. "

When we got to carcasonne we was told we was getting a renault scenic which was only a 5 seater plus 2 in the boot with no room for the cases or pram. plus it would mean a child under 3 would have to sit in the boot seat alone as there wasnt enough leg room for a adult. The very rude and very unhelpful manager said the picture on my autoeurope recipt was wrong and we shouldnt of had a ford galaxy or equivelant but my point was as well as the picture it said ford galaxy 7 seater or eqivellent in writing so it didnt matter if the picture was wrong. after arguing for over a hour and phone calls to autocar europe the only thing he could offer us was to pay extra for a mini van and try to complain and get a refund when we got home. This wasnt an option for us as we only had enough money for our holiday and it wasnt our mistake we had paid for a 7 seater ford galaxy or equivellent and thats what we wanted. The manager was trying to say that your website had the Ford Galaxy as a different classification to the Thirfty classification they had the scenic in group G and the ford galaxy in group H. Again that wasnt our fault all we booked was a 7 seater with boot space we didnt look or compare classifications we just wanted what we paid for. After another 20 mins or so we asked him to phone his manager as the kids was sat outside in the baking sun for over a hour and 20 mins getting restless tired and hungry and in need of a drink. his manager then said to give us what we paid for and give us the mini van. which was what we had paid for. This then had a knock on effect for the start of the holiday as when we finaly got to Vias the supermarket was closed and we couldnt get food etc until the next day. i would like someone to contact me with a follow up about this dissapointing and easily avoidable experiance. And some sort of compensation/refund to help put this unplesent event behind us. "

" I have used Auto Europe on many occasions. As I only use the car for short journeys in France I particularly like the option of returning the car with a full tank. Although Auto Europe may initially appear to be slightly more expensive when the additional cost of a full tank of fuel (50-70 euros) is included Auto Europe is much more competitive for someone like me.
