Carcassonne Airport is a modern, regional airport that efficiently serves the Occitanie region of south-east France. Located on the western edge of town, just a few minutes' driving distance from the city centre, Salvaza or Sud de France Carcassonne Airport (as it is also sometimes known) handles both domestic and international flights, the majority of the latter arriving during the summer months. During the 1990s, the airport grew into a popular hub for low-cost services to and from a growing number of European airports, a trend that has continued to develop until the present day.

Consisting of a single terminal building, Carcassonne Airport is one of the most modern and efficient regional airports in the south of France, with annual passenger movements around the 500,000 mark. Located at an altitude of more than 400 feet, it currently operates with two separate runways and an extensive range of on-site amenities to cater for the airport's increasing expansion plans.

    Airport Facilities

The terminal building at Carcassonne Airport is a self-contained unit offering the kind of efficient, 21st-century travel experience to be found at other regional airports around the country. There's a convenience store where passengers can buy newspapers, magazines and a wide range of local products as well as a food and beverage area for snacks, light meals and refreshments. The airport provides free 24-hour high-speed Internet access in both the Arrivals and Departures areas, while an international cash dispenser is available just outside the main exit.

How to get to and from Carcassonne Airport

Carcassonne Airport serves the beautiful Languedoc-Roussillon region and is located just a few miles west of Carcassonne town centre. The airport transfer time is very short, around 15-20 minutes by car and a bit longer by bus. After picking up your car hire at Carcassonne Airport, the drive to the city centre is quick and easy along Route de Montréal or the D119. To the northern parts of Carcassonne city centre it's best to take the D6161, or the D6113 if you're travelling to the west. Corresponding with flight times, the airport shuttle bus (the navette aéroport) takes about 25 minutes and runs daily between Carcassonne Train Station in the town centre and the airport terminal building, occasionally stopping at the city's medieval quarter. A taxi between the airport and downtown Carcassonne takes about 20 minutes and costs between €15-€20 depending on the time of day. Carcassonne is also very well connected by train, with high-speed TGV trains arriving regularly from Lyon, Toulouse and Barcelona. The city is also served by slower inter-city services from Bordeaux and Marseille, while the popular TER Languedoc-Roussillon service operates from Toulouse, Narbonne, Marseille, Cerbère, Perpignan, Limoux and Quillan.

    Parking Tips

There are plenty of parking possibilities for those who to choose to rent a car at Carcassonne Airport, with the P1 car park catering for short-term passenger drop-offs and collections, P2 for medium stays and P3 for long stays of a week or more. These two main airport car parks are located right outside the terminal building, with P1 directly in front of the main entrance and P2 situated at the end of building. Both are within a few minutes' walk of all the airport’s main facilities, meaning that no transport is required to reach the check-in desks. Although parking in the centre of Carcassonne isn't quite as straighforward, it is perfectly possible in the three large municipal car parks located near the Old Town, the main one being on Chemin de Montlegun less than half a mile from Carcassonne's famous medieval quarter, close to the city's famous Porte Narbonnaise entrance. Additionally, there are three more conveniently located underground car parks in the popular Bastide St Louis area where you'll find more than 1,000 spaces available in very close proximity to many of Carcassonne's most important tourist sights.
