    Driving Licence Requirements

    The driving licence requirements when on the roads in the Netherlands are that you must hold a valid licence from your country of residence and be at least 18 years old.

    Age Restrictions

    To hire a car in Netherlands, you must be at least 19 years old (age may vary by car category) and have held your license for 1 year. Drivers under the age of 25 may incur a young driver surcharge when collecting a car hire in Amsterdam.

    Driving Rules and Petrol Stations

    • Driving in Netherlands is on the right hand side of the road.

    • Passing or turning is forbidden on roads with a continuous white line.

    • Drivers are to carry at all times while driving, a valid driver's licence, registration documents and insurance documents.

    Tolls

    There are no tolls in the Netherlands.

    Parking Information

    In cities, you will need a time stamped Netherlands parking disc to park in 'blue zone' areas. These discs, placed on the dashboard, can be obtained at motor club offices, tobacco shops and police stations. Parking is not available by black and white or yellow curbs.

    One-way Car Hire

    Domestic one-way rentals are unrestricted and free of charge. There are fees for international one-way rentals, and not all vehicles are allowed.
