" Our exceptionally poor experience was with Buchbinder car rental and their Mother company Europcar and not Auto Europe. Our experience with Auto Europe has always been excellent. "
" We were warned that the car we had requested was not available and was allocated a MG SUV that was supposed to be the same size; however, this was not the case. As this was the only car allegedly available at this time we accepted the keys and went to check the existing damage advised by your sales assistant. The damage was extensive and the exterior and interior of the car was unclean, we reported this to the sales assistant and was once again informed this was our only vehicle option. Upon on our return to the car my Daughter and Son-in-law proceeded to fit the child seat provided by Europcar for my two year old Grandson. As they tried to secure him into the safety harness of the seat it became apparent that the harness was defective and did not meet European safety standards as the tension strap for the harness was not there and therefore my Grandson was not secure to travel. We returned to the sales assistants in the airport and they were dismissive of our concerns and our request for a seat that was legal and safe for travel. Once the missing seat tensioner was shown to the sales assistant a replacement was received, although begrudgingly. We then started to load the MG SUV and prepared to travel, when all of the electrics on the car failed and as my Husband had already prepared to drive the car, he was unable to put the wheel brake back on and the car started to roll backwards towards the car park wall, he then had to sit in the car with his foot on the brake, whilst I once again went to she sale assistants in the Airport to report the car was broken. I had to insist one of the sales assistants come to the car and witness the problem and our concerns, We were holding the car physically to allow my Husband to exit the car in order for the sales assistant to try and get the vehicle to work. The sales assistant could not bring the car back to life and had to search the parking garage for traffic cones to force under the back wheels to prevent Europcar's car rolling into a wall. My Husband then had to once again go to the sales area within the airport for the assistant to find him another car. While my Husband was in the Airport, my Daughter and I had to retrieve out luggage from a locked car boot (due to electrical failure). We had to crawl into the back seat and to drop a seat panel and drag the luggage into the passenger area in order to get it out of the dead car. We were travelling as a family with a two year old child to visit my 94 year old Mother and did not leave the airport until 12:15am of the following day due to this fiasco. I have hired cars through Europcar on numerous occasions and on this occasion their sister company of Buchbinder and we were truly disappointed with the poor quality of their vehicle and the lack of initial lack of concern from the sales team for the safety and wellbeing of my family. "

" My flight was scheduled to arrive at 16:30 when I had booked my hire from but was slightly delayed by approximately 50 minutes, coupled with the length of time to get through passport control I arrived at Enterprise by 18:00 to be told by the staff member from Enterprise that as I was more than 30 minutes late they had given away my hire car and that the only available car required an additional €30 for each day of hire. I use your service a lot and have never had this experience in spite of always being later than the time of the booking by at least 30 minutes. The staff member was incredibly rude and unhelpful and showed not a drop of empathy to the situation. Myself and my colleagues were all incredibly disappointed with this service but were left with no choice but to pay the premium for the other car. Atrocious service from Enterprise, very very disappointed with this as I know that they are a company that ordinarily pride themselves on customer service. The representative pointed out that I should have put my flight number in, but I have never done this. "

" I booked a Tiguan or equivalent as wanted a 4x4 for bad weather and boot space. I've used Avis for about 11yrs now at Hamburg and always had a Tiguan or Volvo XC60 when I book this type of car. SIXT advised they were busy and although I paid another 100 euros for automatic they gave me a BMW 120, about the size of a Golf and our baggage was on the back seat on view as the boot was so small. Very disappointed and complained to Sixt who advised the BMW 120 is in a higher group. I'm not sure how when it's such a small car and not like an SUV which I'd booked "

" Everything was good except for the drop-off of our rental car in Paris. We planned to return it at Paris Airport. After an unexpected change of our booked flight, we had to take the train. This means that we had to drop off the car at the train station. However, finding the exact drop-off location took us several hours as the place that we searched over the internet and also told by the lady in Hamburg office was incorrect. Eventually we ended up of having to send one person to walk toward the Europcar office in the train station building (it turned out there are two sections, North and South) and get the exact location. We wish the public drop-off location will be changed by someone to reflect the true location so that the next person renting the car and decide to change the drop-off location to Paris train station will not have to drive around without knowing the drop-off address is wrong. "

" As soon as I left the car park at HH airport, the 'check tyre pressure' warning came on the dashboard. I called the service desk and was told to return the car to the drop-off area where the staff would be able to help me. I did this and the tyre pressure was sorted. However, by the time I arrived at my destination about 100km away, the same message was displayed on the dashboard. I contacted my local Avis/Budget branch and they told me to come in and change my car as I didn't feel comfortable driving with a car that clearly had a slow puncture. Ultimately though the staff at Avis Kiel was unable to help me as the system apparently would not allow him to change cars over as my car was registered as off road and not for rental since it had reached the end of its rental life. As it was Saturday there was no one we could call so I left it until my departure day (Monday) and called him again, only to be told that he didn't have any cars he could spare to go to Hamburg. I therefore had to risk the drive back with a tyre that was losing air, lost valuable time by having to revisit the various car hire places and to top it all, never received my rental contract via email as requested - it took another phone call to the Hamburg service desk to get this rectified. All on all a very disappointing experience which I shall not risk again by booking with Budget. "

" Despite having booked Ford Fiesta class, the Hertz counter staff tried to give me a Fiat 500 explaining Hertz' classification of cars is different. After discussion he first said he hadn't any cars in the higher class as they didn't know I booked one in that class. But then he changed the car. On return of the car, they first tried to blame me for a broken antenna, which I hadn't damaged. Luckily I always take photos when taking over the car. " I called Autoeurope to complain and ask for a refund as we did not want to use this rental company anymore, they said nothing could be done until after the rental period which would mean we wouldn't know if we could get a refund. This meant that we had to stick with global rent a car which was something we did not want to do. Although it was easy to reach their helpline, Auto Europe did not help at all to try to rectify the situation at the time when it was needed. Auto Europe also did not provide a confirmation email with the terms and conditions for car rental, which if we had had would have prevented this situation from occurring. "
" I called the global rent 3 hours before I was to collect my car, saying I hadn't received a confirmation email and asking if everything was in order with the booking and if there was anything I should be aware of. They said everything is fine and just to come along and collect the car. Upon arriving we were told that we had to have a passport to collect the car, a term which we had not been made aware of by global rent due to zero communication on their end. We asked to see the terms and conditions and asked how we could have known beforehand, at which point we were shown a small print poster in German a literal crevasse in the corner of the office. We then asked for the terms in English, which they had to then specially find and print out for us as it was not readily available even for the staff. These terms stated that a passport OR an identity card was required to pick up the car. We had an identity card but they still insisted on a passport despite the fact that this was not in the terms and conditions and that the terms and conditions had never been provided to us despite the phone call we had. We had travelled over 2 hours on public transport with a disabled 80 year old to reach the car rental, on our way to visit her extremely sick husband. The employees could see this and her distress and instead insisted on complying to a policy that was not even detailed in their terms and conditions, and which was impossible to access for non-German speakers or anyone who had not yet been in the office. As a result we lost a day with our sick family member, 4 hours in travel (there and back), travel fees there and back, the fee of the car rental for that day and created a lot of unnecessary stress. This is unacceptable and I would like a refund for the car for the day of rental I was denied to use. "

" The counter staff just did not want to help. she would not block £1000 on a debit card and continuously demanded a credit card as she said people in Germany always have a credit card and could not accept a credit card. my husband then offered his credit card but she refused to take it as he was not the driver despite the initial booking being made with the same card. she then said she would be able to take a debit card if i agreed to pay £27 per day extra. with no choice at hand i paid £350 extra. their policy is you must have a credit card, and she would not take my debit card to block the funds. she only took the debit card once i paid for the full insurance £27 per day! " I was supposed to arrive at Hamburg airport at 21.15. The flight was delayed from Gatwick so I tried to call interrent but the phone number on the voucher wasn't working (not correct). I contacted you (auto Europe) and you found the right number for me. I rang interrent and told them that I might be 5 to 10 minutes late as we were now arriving at 22.30 and interrent office closes at 23.00. So with collecting suitcase I thought that I would be a few minutes over. I was told that they basically didn't care and no one would wait. This made the flight very stressful and we did land at 22.30 and I managed to get of the plane, go through passport control, grab the suitcase and arrive At interrents desk 22.50. The lady at desk had my name on the list but she also confirmed that they wouldn't have waited for me. Most of the other car hire companies are open until 24.00. I booked a midsize car and got and old Skoda fabia. She did offer to upgrade to a better car for € 10 per day. I do hire cars from Hamburg airport but never again with interrent. But thank you for your good service when I rang you up. "

We were then told by tge person who checked us in he would have to fill it up and the cost would be 50 euro. On returning to UK, we have had a charge of £86.88 on the credit card for fuel.
