Eventually they found a BMW C3 auto, this had obviously just been returned and had not been cleaned and had been damaged. When booking the return was to be Alicante airport, the actual return was off the airport with a shuttle bus. This took us and luggage back to Arrivals at airport, instead of Departures, so another long walk and up several levels. Overall a poor experience. "

" They scammed us. I had three different credit cards. None of them Worked. I spoke to my bank, which said there was no issue with my card, but it was the payment terminal. (In fact, we went to a supermarket afterwards and worked.) " Upon arrival to the goldcar desk at the airport at around 22:30. I was asked by the Goldcar counter staff to pay the £1421.89 deposit. I attempted this with my Santander debit card. Unfortunately, due to security reasons, Santander stopped the transaction as they suspected it was fraud. I asked the counter staff if I could use a credit card in my wifes name (same surname) but he refused. He advised that it had to be a card in my name which I didn't have. I could not see this requirement on the T's and C's. Whilst attempting to contact Santander which was difficult as it was late and i was calling from a foreign country, the counter staff threatened to charge me an additional €40 as it was now past 23:00. This was very unhelpful considering the situation we was in, especially with two young children. I finally managed to get in touch with Santander who authorized the transaction and I was then allowed to take the vehicle. When returning the vehicle, it was checked by the counter staff and i was informed everything was ok with the vehicle and I was asked to sign there tablet which i did. I have now been refunded £1364.58 and have not been informed why i have been charged an additional £57.31. "

" I was given a BYD Hybrid car that needed to be charged or so it seemed. As it turned out the battery was faulty from the factory. Even with all of this getting stranded on the side of the road, the treatment was excellent. The tow truck came within a half-hour. They even sent a car service to pick us up. The tow truck mechanic and I both thought at first that the problem was that the battery had not been charged but after charging the car for over five hours the battery drained immediately. Once again the battery wouldn't allow the car to move. We had to leave it off for a little bit in order to make it back to the hotel. The next day we requested a new car and another tow truck had to come remove the car. Eventually, we were taken to receive a new rental car from Granada, Spain. The company sent us a taxi that had to take us about an hour from where we were staying. The second car had no issues and I was able to continue with my journey. "

" Dire experience. Did everything I could to warn AutoEurope that our flight was delayed. Their out of office number did not allow a message to be be left and as a consequence we had no car on arrival at the airport and had to find a hotel and try and get a replacement car in the morning at extra cost to me. Autoeurope have taken my money, no provided a service at all, despite me fulfilling all the directions required under our agreement. I will be pursuing options to get my money back and will take formal complaint action at the same time. Will never use this company again. Their service is a scam. "

" Booked the rental because we had planned to drive it down to Barcelona instead of paying for a train. Got to the airport and had absolutely no clue where we should get the rental car from had to go to information who gave us a number to ring and they said over the phone we had to go to a hotel shuttle bus. Took us about twenty minutes of walking around and standing in luckily the right place at the right time completely by accident that we happen to see a shuttle bus with the company's name pull up. got in and drove ten minutes to some random underground car park where the rental was located finally happy to just get the car and be on our way we then get told that we aren't getting a car because my drivers license had four months instead of six months which they claimed was disclosed during booking which definitely was not even after going back to look afterwards we still couldn't find any information on this the reason we booked with this car rental is because you didn't have to be driving for a certain amount of time (or so we thought) we tried to get a refund but the people at the desk were rude to us even before they knew we couldn't get a car which I can only assume is because I'm a younger woman this all resulted in me and my two friends being down over a hundred euros and completely stranded in Madrid where we had to pay out another sum of money for a hotel since there was no trains available for the day. I took many photos on collection and return just to be safe. If my car had been perfect, then perhaps an insurance excess is reasonable, but not in these circumstances. The run around from Portuguese authorities because I want to pay the tolls has been difficult and they remain outstanding. The check out process is very efficient and cars are immaculate. However, make sure you are present when you return the car for inspection. Sixt are very thorough in its check in. However when I showed my Spanish ID card, the staff insisted that I needed to show my passport (also Spanish) which I had left in the place I was staying 120km away. Both are a valid form of ID in Spain and throughout the EU, however staff member was adamant, so I could never get the car I paid for. Luckily I walked a few meters to the Europcar counter, which were extremely helpful and allowed me to hire a great car with absolutely no issues. "

" I often use Auto Europe to book rental cars from the big US rental car firms in North America (US & Canada) and I have never encountered problems with any of the large US hire car firms. This is the worst hire car experience that I have ever encountered. Given the BLATANT lies that the Keddy drop-off employee made, I am making a formal complaint. UP until this car rental experience, I have always been very happy with Auto Europe's service and up until this terrible experience (which ruined y holiday), I would have given Auto Europe a rating of "10" in box "4 HOW LIKELY ARE YOU TO RECOMMEND AUTOEUROPE TO A FRIEND". If my complaint is not dealt with then I would feel I would remove the rating to "1 – NOT AT ALL LIKELY" as I would be left with the belief that Auto Europe does not in fact care about its customers and therefore I would not be able to recommend Auto Europe to any of my family or friends. " The car was damaged when I picked it up. I took photographs to prove this. When I dropped the car off the Keddy employee said there was damage to one of the wheel rims. When I said the wheel was like this when I picked the car up, the Keddy employee said he would remove the scratched wheel from the drop-off report and that I did not need to sign the report as he would take care of it and I could leave to catch my plane. This was a lie. He then added a second item of damage to the car, scratches on the tailgate of the car – in fact, like the scratch on the wheel, these scratches were on the car when I picked it up and I have photographs to prove this. When the drop-off report was emailed to me it said that I had refused to sign the drop-off report. This is a blatant lie as the Keddy employee said that it was not necessary for me to sign and that he would take care of it, and that there would be no items of damage on the drop-off report, as I had returned the car in the same condition as when I took it. I have a witness who was present throughout the drop-off process. I will NEVER use Keddy or EuropeCar again. I frequently use Auto Europe to book rental cars from the big US rental car firms in North America and I have never encountered problems with any of the large US hire car firms. This is the worst hire car experience I have ever had again. This is a formal complaint, especially given the serious lies that the Keddy employee made at the drop-off. "

" We had a 3 hour delay and arrived to Madrid Airport at 1am when the Firefly office was closed. The phone number on their website didn't work... We had to take a taxi with my son who's in a wheelchair to get into town. The following morning, I called Auto Europe and spoke to somebody about our situation; I was told that I just need to go to the Firefly office at the airport and they'd sort everything out. I arrived to the airport at 1pm, and I was told by the lady on the Firefly desk that they don't have the same class car at the time and I either wait for 2 hours or I pay for an upgrade. I explained to the lady that I have done nothing wrong and I don't understand why I'd be penalized, however she was very dismissive and rude. As I needed a car to be able to get around with my son who's in a wheelchair so I couldn't wait around and had to pay 100 Euros for an upgrade. Really poor service. I would like my money back!! "

" The Hertz staff at Madrid were rude and pushy, trying to sell us lots of things we did not want or need, and insisting we had no insurance. Then the car they gave us had a boot size 30% smaller than we'd booked and we struggled to fit our bags in. Then when drove off to find that there was a screw in the front tyre and we were losing pressure. There was no spare tyre to change it. We called Auto Europe for advice but we're cut off. We drove slowly towards Lisbon and got there eventually, but they wouldn't swap the car cos it was Spanish. They took our car and patched up the tyre. We were given a much smaller car for a day but not offered a discount on our booking, then when we got our car back they'd also refilled the petrol and charged us their rate for it. When we complained when we returned the car in Seville they just have us a Hertz customer service email. "

The person of the counter told ud that the car was not available and tried to make us pay for a more expensive car. When we said that we were not interested in that, she replied that we had to wait at least 30 minutes for a car to arrive there. I asked then if we would get our money back for tgat amount of time and then the keys of a similar car appeared. It is the first time that I am asked about pay extra money or wait due to the lack of avsilability of a car. Usually company provides the car of the same category, or another car with the closer higher category, but never have tried to give me less than what I have paid "

" Inevitably Auto Europe has little control over the hire company, in this case Europcar. I have used Auto Europe several times, but frequently find that my arrangement with Auto Europe seems to have little meaning to the hire company (apart from making a basic reservation). The hire company's agents take little notice of what the hirer has arranged with Auto Europe, are very persuasive in promoting additional insurances, and frequently provide a car which barely meets the anticipated standard. I rarely feel I'm getting what I wanted at the price I thought I was paying. "
" Our experience in collecting the car was not good. 1. On arriving at the counter, I was told that my booking (Europcar ref. 1111491606) had been cancelled; and then that another booking had been made for me (ref. 1111513430). I have no idea how this had happened. 2. We had booked a car with GPS, and were told there was only one available: when we got to the car, the infotainment interface was all in Russian; once we had worked out how to change it to English, the display said there was no GPS fitted and that we should use Apple CarPlay; fortunately we had an iPhone. 3. Existing minor damage to the car had not been documented. 4. On exiting the car park at Madrid Barajas, we reached a multi-lane exit barrier but had no exit ticket so had to seek help from the operating staff. Europcar should have told us about this / provided an exit ticket. 5. I have now seen a charge from Europcar on my credit card bill, which may be correct (I did take out extra insurance) but I have no way of knowing how Europcar have arrived at the figure. >>> All this makes for a less than satisfactory experience. "

" It was a complete nightmare, the light for the oil came on less than 24 hours. Road assistance called a tow truck, the gentleman filled the car with oil (it clearly hadn't been checked) the car didn't have any oil, it was below the minimum. After filling it with car with oil the light was still on. The gentleman from the tow truck said he would have to call road assistance again. He spoke to them and they then advised me that he would have to take the car and I would have to go to Madrid (from Galicia, over 600km) to get another car. I refused to let him take the car. I emailed firefly to no avail. They called me 10 days later. All the phone lines were either busy or dead. I called autoeurope and the advisor said there was nothing he could do... After reading online I saw that the specific make and model, could drive between 50 - 100km after being filled, if the light was still on after that, then it would be an issue. I didn't use the car for three days! "

" When we arrived at the desk, the first thing the assistant did was try to upsell us to an Audi. We had booked 'opel Corsa or similar'. When we declined the Audi, we were told that the only available car was a Fiat panda. They said it was in the same category as the opal Corsa but, having hired many opal Corsa in the past, I can say that a Fiat panda is nothing like the Corsa! It was tiny, underpowered for a family of 4 and of course could only for one suitcase in the boot, making for an uncomfortable journey. Very disappointed. I chose Europcar even though it was more expensive than other companies, thinking we were less likely to be ripped off by added extras, but this has turned out to be the worst car hire experience I've had. "

At drop off, the staff made a mistake and I was charged nearly £40 euros for fuel even though the tank was full! I asked for a paper receipt, and so the mistake was noticed, but if I had to wait until I saw an email, I would not have been able to challenge the charge at the time. I am still concerned whether the situation has been properly rectified, but previous experiences with Budget have been great, so hopefully all is okay now. "

Why not have a simplified, unified process to enable people to just pick up and go? As an agent I'm sure you could lead this discussion with the companies. " WHEN I had booked the car on the internet, I thought that I had no more to do than sign paperwork, and head off with the car. It was a nightmare. First of all, they had only 1 person on duty, and had to wait for around 30 minutes to get any service for their Madrid airport desk (Terminal 4) Then they tried me to upgrade the car to which I replied NO, and do this more than once to confirm that NO means NO. They they pushed me to take maximum insurance cover, and they rattled off various prices for insurance, e.g. windscreen, super damage waitver and 'additional products - whatever that is meant to mean. Then they added a location and surcharge to the REntal agreement number 824926931 and there was never mention of this whilst talking to them at the desk. Was then asked to sign the paperwork on 2 pages without any explanation except for the fuel on return to be full up, or charge me Euros 66.84 Then were advised again that we would get an upgrade with a sat nav, which we never asked for , nor did we want this, as had our own Sat nav taken over from the UK. This was absurd, and I have no idea on how much extra we were being charged for this 'supposedly extra'. Also, at no time, were we advised that the car had 7 damaged parts on the car, as never shown this by anyone, and also the front right wheel of the car had an illegal type as it was below the minimum depth of team. So after 20 minutes, i was allowed to go to their official desk in the car park and had to wait a further 20 minutes to get the keys of the car, and never once were given a viewing of the car for damage etc, nor how to work the sat nav, which we did not ask for either. It was 2 days before we spotted the 7 problems with the car, and could believe that this was being offered to us 'as an upgrade'.. Totally disgusted with Avia/Budget and had not used them in the past, and I will contact them directly with my complaints, and will never use them again, as well had to pay an extra 535.36 euros less 66.64 for diesel plus 257.96 for my initial payment when I had booked the car. That is aorund 900 euros for a 2 week hire, and this is my complaint to the boss at AVis from Madrid airport Terminal 4, and yet I did not get the car I had asked for. Terrible service from what is supposed to be a professional company within Europe. I will be looking for a massive refund from Avis/Budget. "

" The service in Madrid was unacceptable and I have complained about it to your staff at the drop off in Seville (who, by contrast, were excellent). It took 40 minutes from arrival at the desk to depart with the car, yet we were being served for 35 of those minutes. The man at the counter would wander off and ignore us, take phone calls and was incredibly slow. The only other member of staff (two staff is insufficient, given that they both fill in forms and escort customers to staff, meaning that the office is regularly unattended) served three people in the time our man took to serve us. The type of car we had requested, an SUV, was not available. We were given an upgrade, although it was not the type of vehicle we wanted. For the entire trip we had warning signs that the oil needed changing, which turned into oil level low. From day 3 we had warning signs that the tyre pressures were low. We don't think the car had been properly prepared for hire. "

" My first experience with Firefly. Brilliant service: I liked that I was given a choice of car (though I understand this is not always possible), I DID NOT have to go through the stupid process of checking all the scratches in the paintwork because I was on a comprehensive damage cover. The check-in process took less than 10 min as docimentation was very straightforward. It was very late and with 2 cranky-sleepy children, I was really thankful for not having to go through all the lengthy motions of paperwork, documents etc. Car was not in pristine condition paintwork wise, but so what! The price was really competitive, and engine wise and all gadgets inside were in perfect working order. I would rate Firefly 10/10 in my first use of them. "

When we arrived at the airport we found that Advantage had been re-branded as Firefly (but was still part of the Hertz group). Service at the airport was o.k. but we realized sometime later that the charge for a full tank of fuel was pretty high when we got around to checking how much fuel the vehicle actually held. There was also VAT charged at 21% on top of this inflated fuel price. The car had a few scratches and scuffs but otherwise was what we expected. We covered around 1,000km in six days and the car drove well enough during that time. We may use Firefly again but I will be sure to check the extra charges very carefully. "
