Car Hire at Madrid Atocha Train Station - Exploring Central Spain

One of Europe's most historic railway stations, Madrid Atocha Train Station is a magnificent and very centrally located public transport hub with an impressive range of on-site facilities. Named after the Royal Basilica of Our Lady of Atocha, an old Roman Catholic church originally consecrated in 1150, it was the first of the city's stations to be built and inaugurated way back in February 1851.

Today it serves as the Spanish capital's primary station catering for dozens of daily commuter trains (known as Cercanías), regional trains, intercity trains from places like Navarre, Cádiz and Huelva (Andalusia) and La Rioja and frequent AVE high-speed trains arriving from Girona, Tarragona and Barcelona (Catalonia), Huesca and Zaragoza (Aragon), Seville, Córdoba and Málaga (Andalusia), Valencia, Castellón and Alicante (Levante Region).

Madrid is a top tourist destination with many first-class museums and other cultural attractions to visit, some of which are a short walk from Atocha, most notably the Reina Sofía Museum, Royal Botanic Garden, Prado Museum, Neptune Fountain and the Madrid Railway Museum. A train of special interest to visitors also runs from the station to Alcalá de Henares where Miguel de Cervantes, author of Don Quixote, was born in 1547.

With a car hire from Madrid Atocha Train Station you can experience one of Europe's most fascinating cities before embarking on an exciting road-trip to a series of historic places, such as Toledo (famous for its UNESCO-protected Old Town) and the old university city of Salamanca approximately a two-hour drive from the Spanish capital.
