Car hire at Glasgow Prestwick Airport - Exploring Scotland

Conveniently situated in the heart of Ayrshire on the west coast of Scotland, Glasgow Prestwick Airport is surrounded by a number of towns including Prestwick, Ayr, Troon, Irvine and Kilmarnock. The geographical position of the airport provides easy access to the countryside, castles, coast, Scottish western islands and Glasgow, Scotland’s largest city, which is located 32 miles (51 km) north-east of the airport and can easily be reached by road and rail.

Glasgow Prestwick Airport is Scotland’s only rail-connected airport, which allows travellers to arrive stress-free on public transport with a direct connection from the airport terminal to Glasgow Central Station. It is also Scotland's largest airport by size, although Edinburgh Airport, Glasgow International and Aberdeen Airport are all busier and handle more passengers throughout the year.

As its name suggests, the airport serves both the city of Glasgow (a thriving cultural centre with an abundance of top tourist attractions) and Prestwick, a peaceful town with lots of local history on the country's spectacular south-west coast. It is also well placed for visitors looking to go further and explore some of Scotland's most famous places, including Loch Ness and the Highlands.

With a car hire from Glasgow Prestwick Airport visitors have direct access to most parts of the country, giving drivers the opportunity to embark on an exciting road-trip with family and friends. It's also the best way to explore some of south-west Scotland's lesser-known gems, including Galloway Forest Park to the south of Prestwick and the very scenic Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park to the north.

    Parking Tips

Parking in both Glasgow (a very large city) and Prestwick (a relatively small seaside town) is perfectly possible for people visiting the area with a car rental from Glasgow Prestwick Airport. Both places offer on-street parking and large numbers of spaces in car parks located inside and outside the centres. Many Glasgow hotels have cheap long-stay parking offers for guests and non-guests alike. A free bus runs from the long-stay car park to the airport terminal. Pre-booking parking will often secure discount prices. Special prices are sometimes available for weekend or midweek parking.
