Car hire at Liverpool airport – More than the Beatles

A car hire from Liverpool Airport allows you to make the most of your time in this wonderful city famous for its many musicians, its football club, and diverse culture. The city of Liverpool has held the title of European Capital of Culture and parts of the city centre has been registered as a World Heritage Sites by UNESCO. The world-famous Grand National is held annually at Aintree Racecourse on the outskirts of the city. It is a city full of life and vitality and you will always receive a warm welcome.

The airport was built in 1930 and opened in 1933 with its first scheduled flights. At the time, the small airport with only one runaway, one control tower and two hangars served the demand for people wishing to cross the Irish Sea and during WWII it was requested as an assembling place for Hudsons and Mustang fighters.

In 1986, the southern terminal was built and the old art deco building, now Grade II listed, was left derelict until 2001 when it was turned into a hotel. In 2001 the airport also changed its name from Speke Airport to Liverpool John Lennon Airport, becoming the first airport in the United Kingdom named after an individual.
