    Road Rules and Petrol Stations

    • There are petrol stations on all major roads, as not all petrol stations accept credit cards, we recommend to have either cash or a debit card as a backup.
    • The national speed limits are 130 km/h (80 mi/h) on motorways, 90 km/h (55mi/h) on open country roads and 50 km/h (30 mi/h) in built-up areas.
    • Children under 12 years old (or under 1.5 metres tall) are not permitted to travel in the front seat without a proper child restraint system.

    Even though the roads are well maintained in Luxembourg there are no toll roads like in neighbouring France.

    Age Requirements

    The minimum age to drive in Luxembourg is 18. In order to rent a car in Luxembourg, you must have your driving licence for longer than a year.     Currency

    Luxembourg is part of the European Union and has the Euro as currency. You can use exchange offices at the train station in town or simply withdraw cash from the ATM. Please check with your bank if you have any fees for withdrawing money outside the UK. At most shops you can make use of your credit card.

    The time zone in Italy is GMT +1, making Luxembourg City one hour ahead of London.

    Dictionary

    Luxembourg has three official languages: German, French and Luxembourgish which are all spoken throughout the country. Historically, people in politics and power spoke French while the working class spoke German and Luxembourgish. This changed when French was added to the lessons in primary schools. Next to these three languages, most residents can also speak English.

    Electricity

    The electrical voltage in Luxembourg is the, 230 volts (same as in the UK). However, the wall sockets are different from the UK and you would require an adapter.
