    Official name: San Francisco International Airport, also referred to by its IATA code, SFO.

    Airlines operating at SFO: There are almost 50 airlines operating from SFO. The airport is one of the United Airlines hubs. The air link to the UK is provided by British Airlines, United Airlines and Virgin Atlantic.


    The airport consists of four terminals, arranged anticlockwise. There are seven concourses, named A to G. Terminal 1, 2 and 3 handle domestic flights,whereas the International Terminal handles all international air traffic and some domestic flights.

    Car Hire Pick-up and Drop-off

    Car hire desks are located in the Rental Car Center situated to the west of the terminals. The AirTrain Blue Line provides 24/7 access to the Rental Car Center from the airport.     Airport Facilities

    The airport has a great selection of shopping and dining possibilities, with stores and eateries catering for all tastes and ages. One of the airport highlights is the FSO Museum with around 40 exhibitions annually. There are spa centres, yoga and reading rooms. Children can invest their energy in the Kids' Spots, and the older travellers can take some rest in Berman Reflection Room. ATM's, or teller machines, are scattered throughout the terminals. Animal Relief Areas are located in each terminal. There is a free WiFi Internet connection in all terminal buildings.

    Transportation/How to Get to the Airport

    There are two major routes to arrive at the airport from San Francisco downtown. The faster way is the 101 route, and a little slower is the interstate 280. Travellers without a car are well catered for as BART (local rapid rail company) provides quick and easy access to SFO from San Francisco, the East Bay and San Mateo County. BART station is situated on the departures level at the International Terminal. The free AirTrain connects all terminals with BART station. There is also a 24/7 bus service run by SamTrans. Buses depart from San Francisco and San Mateo County and stop at each terminal and the Rental Car Center.


    SFO offers different parking possibilities, depending on the time of stay.

    On-street parking in San Francisco is payable Monday to Sunday from 9 am to 6 pm. Parking meters accept coins and credit cards. In most of the places parking is limited to two hours. Pay attention to time restrictions, sweeping hours and restricted areas. There are also multiple public garages around the city.
