Lyon Perrache Train Station (Gare de Lyon-Perrache, in French) is one of two busy railway hubs in the centre of Lyon, a large city in the east of France. Located at the end of the Presqu'ile peninsula, it is the main station for regional routes in and out of the city, along with many longer-distance trains from other parts of France. It also connects with regular services from Paris and Marseille and is the terminus for trains arriving from Geneva in neighbouring Switzerland.
Opened in 1857, the station was originally designed as a central station and took the French architect François-Alexis Cendrier eighteen months to build. It remained the city's most important transport facility until the nearby Part Dieu Train Station was inaugurated many years later. Today, Lyon Perrache Train Station caters for an increasing number of regional (TER) and intercity trains, as well as the occasional a high-speed TGV service. It is also well connected with Lyon's efficient metro system, as well as the city's popular tram lines (T1, T2, T3 and T4).
