    Airport Information

    Lyon Airport (LYS)
Official Name: Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport, French: Aéroport Lyon Saint-Exupéry. Also previously known as Lyon Satolas Airport.
    Address: B.P. 113, 69125 Lyon-Saint Exupéry Aéroport, France
Location: The airport is located 13 miles south-east of Lyon.
Airlines operating at Lyon Airport: Multiple airlines have flights to the UK from Lyon Airport: British Airways flies to London Heathrow Airport, Easyjet to London Gatwick and Luton, and Flybe to Birmingham Airport. Air France has numerous connections from Lyon Airport to other destinations around France and the rest of Europe.

Lyon Airport has three terminals, numbered 1, 2, and 3. Terminals 1 and 2 are larger and adjacent to each other, while Terminal 3 is smaller and serves mainly budget airlines, such as Easyjet. All terminals can be accessed by foot from each other: Terminals 1 and 2 are connected via an area between them called 'Le Centre', which also hosts many of the airport's amenities. Terminal 3 is accessible through Terminal 1. Arrivals are on the ground floor and departures on the first floor in both Terminals 1 and 2, while both facilities are on the same floor in Terminal 3.

Car hire Pick up and Drop off

Car hire suppliers have their desks outside the terminal buildings, and you must, therefore, board a shuttle bus to reach them. The bus stops are, however, very easy to find. One stop is directly outside the exit of Terminal 1, and it serves both Terminals 1 and 3. Another stop is located directly outside Terminal 2, as you walk out of the main exit. The shuttle bus makes stops at all the different car rental companies' offices.

    Airport Facilities

Most facilities are found in Le Centre, the area connecting Terminals 1 and 2. Here, you can find a currency exchange office, ATMs, as well as most shops selling everything from books to fashion and consumer electronics. Cafes and restaurants are dotted around all three terminals, but most are located in the departures area, after you have gone through the security check. Please note that Terminal 3 has rather basic amenities to offer, and has no ATM.

Transportation / How to get to the airport

Owing to its central location and great connections to the motorway network in France, picking up a car hire at Lyon Airport is a great starting point from which to explore France, the Alps, or even the coast of the Mediterranean. The city of Lyon is only about half an hour's drive away via the N346. Driving east on the A43 and A48 for 57 miles, on the other hand, will have you arriving in Grenoble in about an hour. A driving distance of 88 miles away and across the Swiss border you will find Geneva: simply drive along the A42 and A40 and you should reach the city in an hour and a half. Even Turin in Italy can be reached via the A43 and A32 in about three hours. We have put together some more information regarding traffic regulations and driving routes on our France driving information page.

In case your car hire journey begins in the city of Lyon instead of at the airport, there are also public transport links that will connect you to the city. Perhaps the quickest option is the Rhônexpress tramway, though it is also quite expensive. The service departs from the airport TGV railway station, which is only 5 minutes away from the terminals. The journey on the tramway to Lyon Part-Dieu station takes less than 30 minutes, and you can purchase tickets online or at the airport railway station. The airport is also served by coaches, which connect it with surrounding towns, such as Chambéry. The airport TGV station also has high-speed rail links to French cities farther away, including Paris and Marseille. If you are travelling to Lyon Airport during the ski season, look for shuttles from the airport that will transport you to nearby ski resorts.

    Parking Tips

Be sure to pay all required parking fees and abide by parking restrictions in Lyon, as these regulations are enforced efficiently. Parking in 'prohibited parking' areas will warrant a ticket, the cost of which can be quite high. Some spaces, such as the area in front of a fire hydrant or in front of an exit, are deemed to be dangerous locations, and parking there will result in a hefty fine and possibly your car being towed.
