Car Hire at Lisbon Apolónia Train Station - In the Heart of the Capital

Lisbon's Santa Apolónia Station is the oldest railway terminus not just in the capital but the rest of Portugal. Situated in the parish of São Vicente, in a prime location on the north bank of the River Tagus, it is the main train station (along with Lisbon Oriente) for long-distance travellers arriving in the city from places as far and wide as Paris and Madrid.

Inaugurated in 1865, Lisbon Santa Apolónia Train Station was built on the site of an old convent and elegantly designed in an innovative neoclassical style. Managed by national railway operator CP (Comboios de Portugal), it is now a hub for numerous suburban and nationwide services, including the high-speed Alfa Pendular routes to and from the university city of Coimbra in central Portugal and the country's second city of Porto in the heart of Portugal's verdant north.

Along with Rossio Station (which serves Sintra) and Cais de Sodré Station (the terminus of the Estoril/Cascais line), Santa Apolónia is one of Lisbon's most centrally-located railway terminals and offers passengers quick access to many of the city's top tourist attractions. These include the National Tile Museum (one of the most popular in Portugal) and the Military Museum, both of which are situated a few minutes' walk from the station's entrance. Lisbon Oriente Train Station (which serves the former site of the Expo 98 World Exposition known as the Parque das Nações) is just a single stop down the line.

There's all the history and culture of one of Europe's oldest cities to enjoy, plus an exhaustive selection of day-trips and exciting travel itineraries from which to choose, most notably Sintra, one of the world's most enchanting medieval villages.
