As some roads may be winding, narrow or steep, take extra precaution when approaching a bend or driving in a mountainous terrain. Most of the direction signs are bilingual, in Greek and English, which makes finding your bearings easier. However, be sure to have a detailed map when driving your car hire in Santorini as the direction road sings can be obscured by vegetation or graffiti. Traffic gets more congested during the high season which begins in the middle of June and lasts till the end of August. Pay a visit to our Greece driving information guide and learn about the basic traffic regulations in the country.

Parking on the island is free and indicated by the P sign. There are a couple of private parking lots where you need to pay. However, most of the time, you won't need to use it. Summer months are usually busier with traffic and, therefore, there are less parking spaces.
