Popular for its rich mix of African, European and Arab culture, Morocco now offers its fast-growing number of visitors a wide variety of experiences and adventures, especially those who choose to hire a car and explore the country in stye and comfort. It's a country of spectacular natural scenery and dazzling diversity, from the vibrant commercial hub of central Casablanca to the magificent mosques, historical treasures and walled medinas to be found in Rabat, Marrakech, Meknes and Fez, all of which provide a striking alternative to the charming seaside town of Essaouira and the lively resort town of Agadir to the north on Morocco's sun-baked Atlantic coast.
The coastline south of Casablanca is dotted with quaint little villages, many of which were built by the Portuguese many centuries ago. With a car hire in Morocco you can tour this lesser-known part of the country before feasting your eyes on the breathtaking architecture of the country's ancient cities before exploring the imposing peaks of the Atlas Mountains and verdant green valleys of the Rif region. But most visitors are drawn to the peace and solitude that awaits them right on the edge of the vast Sahara Desert, where a relaxing camel ride high into the dunes is a prerequisite for those looking for a taste of adventure and the extraordinary.

Booking a car hire in Morocco through the Auto Europe booking engine is just the beginning of an exciting process that includes picking up your vehicle on arrival at your destination before dropping it off at journey’s end.
Each part of the rental process can raise a number of questions, especially for younger or less experienced drivers, which is why we have compiled a list of some of the most common points of interest for our customers.
Below you will find a list of our most frequently asked questions in relation to the car hire process, which allows you to search by topic to find out more about each specific issue.
If you cannot find what you are looking in this section, please ask us for assistance and our rental specialists will be only too happy to answer any questions you might have on subjects as diverse as car hire coverage, satnav equipment, credit card info, toll payments, age restrictions, etc.
In order to be eligible to drive a car hire in Morocco you must be at least 21 years old with certain vehicle suppliers (namely Europcar, Hertz and Dollar) or 18 years old if renting through local suppliers United Rent and Location Auto. It is also important to have held your driving licence for at least one year and drivers under the age of 26 may incur a Young Driver Surcharge, which is paid locally to the rental company.
You can find all this information (and check the fees that are charged locally) quickly and easily by making a search in the Auto Europe booking engine and clicking on the blue and white info icon (i) in the car details. The same info is supplied in the Terms and Conditions on the voucher after the booking has been made. It is important to make sure that the correct age of the main driver is registered in the system when booking with Auto Europe. This means that we will be able to inform you of any restrictions that might apply to your rental. Please take a look at our car hire age requirements page for more info. Yes. When you rent a car in Morocco, domestic one-way rentals (such as from Marrakech to Fez) are available with all the suppliers. Please note, however, that a one-way car rental is only allowed when the rental period is longer than 1-4 days depending on the supplier, although international one-ways are not allowed, meaning that travel outside of Morocco is not permitted with any supplier. You can find all the details relating to one-way car hire in Morocco in the booking engine search results, below the car rate. The same info is also communicated in the T&Cs after the reservation has been confirmed.
It should be noted that sometimes a one-way fee may be incurred, which is duly collected by whichever one of Auto Europe’s trusted car rental companies has been selected. We would like you to be aware that Auto Europe does not collect or profit from one-way fees in any way, but we feel that it is important to inform our clients of all fees relating to their car hire in order to help them make the best choice for their trip. Each supplier determines its own fees independently, so for the same given pick-up and drop-off location, one company may charge less than another while some may not permit the journey at all. Every supplier has different offices and rental locations, which means that they might offer a different range of options. To find out about all the travel restrictions relating to your car rental in Morocco, all you need to do is make a quick search through our booking engine by choosing your preferred car hire category/supplier and clicking on the blue and white info icon (i) in the car details. This same info also included in the terms of the car hire voucher sent out by e-mail after the booking has been confirmed.
Yes. Yes. In order to rent a car in Morocco, all drivers are required to have a valid credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Diners & American Express) in the main driver’s name because the local rental car provider will want to place a hold on the value of the deductible for the vehicle they rent you whilst driving in Morocco. This amount is promptly refunded once the vehicle has been returned in the same condition it was in when you picked it up. Please take a look at our dedicated blog post to find out the six most importan FAQs concerning car hire deposits and credit card usage. Sometimes it comes as a surprise when a customer’s debit card is not accepted, so they need to be absolutely sure that they have a credit card with enough funds prior to departure. Please note that in the case of premium- or luxury-category cars, the supplier may request a second major credit card (also in the name of the main driver). To find all the relevant credit card info, you just need to make a quick search in the Auto Europe booking engine, after which you’ll find the necessary details by clicking on the blue and white info icon (i). Please be aware that when booking the car hire online, Auto Europe accepts credit cards only as payment methods for the prepaid reservation rate. There's a lot to take into account when you drive a car rental in Morocco. The quality of the main roads and motorways in Morocco has rapidly improved in recent years. Even so, you’ll need to take special care on Moroccan roads because other drivers will often try to overtake you on junctions. Generally speaking, a 4x4 car rental in Morocco is often a good idea in places where the roads are of a poorer quality or if you're considering a trip up into the Atlas Mountains. You should avoid driving at night as many of the obstacles on the road will not have lights, plus there are many mountain roads in the country that do not have guard rails. The speed limit in urban areas is 60 kph, while there’s a maximum speed limit of 100 kph outside urban areas and 120 kph on motorways. Donkeys pulling carts are a common sight in Moroccan towns and cities, so keep a look out for them. Morocco has a reasonable motorway network and it’s a toll system with booths along the route, but the rates are low in comparison with many other destinations and the roads never get congested so it’s the best option for touring the country. Morocco has a zero-tolerance policy for drinking and driving. Driving under the influence could result in a hefty fine, so don’t do it. This also applies to talking on a handheld phone while driving (while illegal, this is a common sight). By law, all passengers in the car are required to wear their seat belts. Please consult our Morocco Driving Guide for more tips and advice on getting around Morocco by car.
Yes. There is an extensive system of toll roads in Morocco which are built and operated by private companies. Approximately 1,800 km of motorways in the Kingdom of Morocco (known as 'Autoroutes du Maroc') are subject to toll charges for all vehicles. These tolls are route-related and are payable on every motorway entry and exit. The main Moroccan expressways are the Rabat Ring Road (42 km), A1 Casablanca-Rabat (86 km), A1 Casablanca–Safi (255 km), A2 Rabat-Fes (190 km), A2 Fes-Oujda (306 km), A3 Casablanca-Marrakesh (220 km), A3 extension to Agadir (233 km), A4 Berrechid-Benni Mellal (172 km), A5 Rabat-Tangier Med (308 km) and the A7 Tetouan-Fnideq (28 km).
All the car rental rates published on the Auto Europe website include the minimum amount of legally required liability insurance, including CDW (Collision Damage Waiver) with or without excess depending on the car rental company and TP (Theft Protection), also with or without excess depending on the car rental company. It’s important to note that CDW never covers damage to some parts of the car (ie tyres, glass, roof, etc.), so drivers are advised to consider taking out Auto Europe’s Full Damage & Theft Protection car coverage product for an additional fee which covers the vehicle’s glass, wheels, roof, under-carriage, towing costs, key loss, misfuelling, administration fee and more. Price may vary depending on Location, rental duration, car category and supplier. You can find all the details you need relating to car hire coverage simply by clicking the blue and white info icon (i) that appears in the Auto Europe search engine results. This info includes the amount of the CDW Deductible, Theft Insurance Deductible and Liability Insurance relevant to your car hire in Morocco. The same info is included in the Terms and Conditions when making an enquiry or booking. At the time of picking up your vehicle, staff from the local car rental company might offer you additional coverage which includes (but is not restricted to) PAI (Personal Accident Insurance), PEC (Personal Effects Coverage), Super CDW, Seguro Relax Insurance, Road Assistance etc. Please note that Auto Europe does not refund any locally-purchased insurance charges/fees even if the purchased product is deemed unnecessary after return of the rental car.
Yes. In some cases you might be asked for an International Driving Permit (IDP), but that will only be necessary if your home licence is not printed in the Roman Alphabet. Drivers planning to rent a car in Morocco with Auto Europe are expected to present a valid driving licence at the time of pick-up which they must have held for at least 2 years. For more details, please consult the DVLA changes section on the Auto Europe website.
Yes. It is possible to add one or more additional drivers to your car hire in Morocco. With some car hire companies, the fees for additional drivers are already included in the price, but others charge a daily fee at the time of pick-up, the amount of which is established by the local supplier. In any case, additional drivers need to be officially registered on the rental agreement and they will be required to present exactly the same documents as the main driver at the time of picking up at the vehicle (ie driving licence, and International Driving Permit where required and passport/personal ID). It’s also possible to include an additional driver on the reservation when booking with Auto Europe. Such fees are stated on Auto Europe’s website and are accessible simply by clicking on the blue and white info icon (i) in the car details after making a quick search in our booking engine. It’s important to note that if a friend or family member not registered on the rental contract decides to drive the rental car, they will automatically excluded from all the insurance coverage. This in turn will make them liable for the total amount of any damages caused in the event of a collision or theft, so it’s essential that all additional drivers are properly authorised before departing from the pick-up point. It is also possible to add an additional driver free of charge at the time of making your reservation through the Auto Europe booking engine. To do this, please consult our Free Additional Driver deals section which offers the latest promotions currently running in several different destinations around the world, including Morocco. You can save a lot of money this way, especially as additional driver fees vary so much from country to country and supplier to supplier.
