Car hire in Billund – Exploring the Heart of Denmark

    Car hire in Billund

Closely connected with the creation of Lego, the world's most famous toy, Billund is a small and very prosperous town conveniently located in the heart of Denmark, in very close proximity to many of the country's most popular tourist attractions. Billund is the second-most visited destination after the capital, Copenhagen, plus it is a regular gateway for visitors looking to enjoy all the natural beauty of the Jutland Peninsular.

From Billund, travellers have access to a wealth of interesting places, such as Kolding (an upmarket seaside resort), Vejle (a town notable for its dazzling architecture), Jelling (a Unesco World Heritage Site) and Ribe (a laid-back town with a charming historic centre) and Aarhus, Denmark's second city. Furthermore, with a car hire in Billund it's easily possible to spend a day or two in Copenhagen which is a manageable 3-hour drive away (260 kilometres) on the E20.

But most people go to Billund for its wide-ranging family appeal which stems from its association with Lego, which means 'play well' (leg godt, in the Danish language). A local carpenter (Ole Kirk Christiansen) invented the toy midway through the last century and its legacy continues to this day with a set of attractions and theme parks targeted at fun-seeking families with young children.

Do I need a credit card to rent a car in Billund?

Yes. To pick up your car rental in Billund, you will always need to present a credit card in the name of the main driver named on the rental contract. Please note that credit cards belonging to friends or additional drivers will not be accepted. Under the blue and white info icon (i) you will find all the necessary details regarding the amount of the deposit and which credit cards are accepted (Visa, Mastercard, Diners, American Express, etc.). If you wish to have more information on this topic, please go to our credit cards and deposit FAQ page. It often comes as a surprise for some people when their debit card or prepaid card is refused, which means that without a credit card you will not be able to collect your vehicle. Furthermore, if your booking is for a luxury-category car, the local rental company might ask for a second credit card (also in the main driver's name) due to the very high value of such vehicles.
