Car hire in Santander at the Best Prices

Northern Spain may not be as popular with tourists as the south, but that does not mean it has nothing to offer, on the contrary, as there are plenty of towns and quaint villages waiting to be explored... Charming and unique, Santander is one of the places on the northern Spanish coast which will surprise you with its personality and appearance. Hilly streets and sandy beaches together with unspoiled countryside make Santander a city of intriguing contrasts.

Car hire in Santander is without doubt the best way to explore the whole region of Cantabria, including the neighbouring cities of Bilbao, Gijón or Leon. Find the most suitable and affordable car hire options with Auto Europe and travel carefree around Spain. Rest assured you're making the right choice by reading the comments posted by other Auto Europe customers on our Santander car hire reviews page.

The A8 motorway stretches along the northern coast and connects the cities in the region. Santander is one of them. Driving through Santander, as driving in any other Spanish city, can get quite challenging at times and may include changing lanes without any prior warning, horn blowing or occupying two parking slots, for instance. Drive your car hire in Santander carefully and with a lot of patience. We recommend reading our compact guide to driving in Spain before your journey.

Park your car hire at one of the many car parks available throughout the city. Underground, overground or on-street are all parking options in Santander. Be careful and pay attention to the meters since parking is chargeable. The city centre belongs to the blue zone and it may be difficult to find a free spot at rush hour.

    Geographic Information

Santander takes up a long stretch of the coast in the north of Spain. As a sea harbour, it has all the advantages a coastal city could offer, including not only wonderful beaches and fresh air but also lush scenery in the countryside. The climate is classified as oceanic with mild summers and winters. Summers, however, tend to be cooler than in southern Spanish cities but warmer than in those in the west. Due to the frequent rain in summer and humidity reaching 90% at times, the climate cannot be considered Mediterranean.

    Santander Airport

The only airport in Cantabria features mostly domestic flights but also some international ones (to Germany and the UK). Santander Airport is located around four miles from the city centre and is easily accessible with a car rental.

    Public Transport

Getting around Santander is fairly easy. With the regular bus service to and from the airport and frequent buses around the city, all the way to the beaches, you can leave your car rental in a car park a bit further from the centre and spare yourself the hassle of finding a free parking space downtown. Of course, you can always use a taxi or rent a bike.
