Do I need a credit card to rent a car in the East Midlands?

Yes. A credit card (in the main driver's name) is a basic requirement when a traveller arrives to pick up their car hire in the East Midlands and elsewhere in the UK. The reason for this is that the local vehicle supplier will need to hold an amount called an excess for the value of the cover during the rental period, and this deductible amount is promptly refunded once the vehicle has been returned undamaged. Please note that debit and charge cards are not acceptable, only major credit cards such as Visa, Mastercard, Diners, American Express, etc.). When hiring a luxury-category car, the car hire company might ask for a second credit card (also in the driver's name) due to the high value of such vehicles.

All the information you need regarding credit cards (and which types are acceptable) can easily be found on the Auto Europe website simply by making a quick search in our booking engine. Just select your dates, destination and preferred vehicle/supplier and click on the blue and white info (i) icon in the car details. You can find the answers to the most common questions when you visit our credit cards and deposits blog post.

What insurance do I need for my car rental in the East Midlands?

When you search for cheap car hire in the East Midlands using the Auto Europe booking engine, rest assured that all our basic car hire rates include the minimum amount of legally-required Liability Insurance, Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) and Theft Protection (TP), which can be with or without excess, depending on the supplier. Please note, however, that CDW does not cover the entire car, so we strongly suggest paying a little more for our Full Damage & Theft Protection cover, which can be added simply by checking the appropriate box at the time of check-out.

Please be aware that when you arrive to collect your vehicle, it's possible that staff of the local car hire supplier might try to sell you additional insurance (such as Personal Accident Insurance (PAI), Personal Effects Coverage (PEC), Super CDW, Seguro Relax Insurance and Roadside Assistance, etc.) which are completely optional and might prove to be surplus to your requirements, especially if you have already purchased Auto Europe's excellent Full Damage & Theft Protection product. It's important to note that Auto Europe cannot provide a refund for any coverage you purchase at the time of picking up your vehicle, but if you have previously purchased coverage through us you will more than likely be fully covered. Please do not hesitate to call our rental specialists on +44 123 3225 114 to find out more.

You can find out all about the car hire coverage terms and conditions simply by clicking the blue and white info (i) icon in the car details after making a quick search in our booking engine, including all the details relating to CDW deductibles, Theft Insurance Deductibles and Liability Insurance. Once your booking has been confirmed, your car rental voucher will also contain the same details of your coverage under the terms and conditions.
