A group of sun-baked Spanish islands not far off the Moroccan coast, the Canary Islands have an enduring appeal with all the added benefits of being a wide-ranging, family-friendly holiday destination. With year-round blue skies and a uniquely spectacular volcanic beauty, travellers to the Canaries always find an island to best suit their requirements whatever the time of year you they are visiting. With a car hire in the Canary Islands visitors can enjoy the all the charm of the archipelago in total comfort and at their own pace.
Lanzarote, the youngest and arguably the most stylish of them all, ranks highly for its wild coastal scenery, bustling street markets and quaint little whitewashed villages dotted around the island. It is also a fully-fledged Unesco geopark due to the manner with which its immense geological heritage is used to enhance its touristic virtues. Lanzarote is also popular for its unique viticulture mostly based on the abundance of high-quality Malvasia grapes grown in the island's volcanic craters.
The largest of all the Canary Islands is Tenerife which offers visitors a lively mix of vibrant seaside resorts, superb beaches, remote mountain retreats and many interesting cultural attractions. The island is dominated by Pico del Teide which at 3,715 metres is the tallest peak in Spain and the highest point above sea level of any island in the Atlantic region. Another of Tenerife's tourist highlights is Timanfaya National Park which features Cueva de los Verdes, one of the world’s longest lava tubes.
Gran Canaria (the third largest of the archipelago) is a very scenic island of verdant forested hills, deep-plunging valleys and fascinating historic sites such as the 15th-century Casa de Colon in the island's capital, Las Palma, where the great explorer, Christopher Columbus, stayed en route to discovering the New World. One of the most appealing of all the cities in the Canaries, Las Palmas is a sun-blessed seaside town with a rich colonial past and boasts many buildings that still exist from those halcyon days.
Fuerteventura, the second-largest island in the Canaries, lies less than a hundred kilometres off the African coast and is one of the least developed of them all. Its beaches (more than 150 of them!) are blessed with the finest golden sand you'll ever see. By declaring the island a biosphere reserve in 2009, UNESCO managed to preserve much of the island's unique natural qualities which in turn has helped maintain its status as one of the least developed and most sparsely populated of all the Atlantic islands.
Dotted with volcanoes, La Palma (the most north-westerly of the Canary Islands) is an island of exceptionally beautiful natural landscapes and is blessed with an abundance of sandy bays surrounded by soaring cliffs. Arguably the most striking of the Canaries’ capitals, its largest town - Santa Cruz de la Palma - was an important seaport in the days of the Spanish Empire and is worth visiting for its 16th-century core filled with traditional balconied homes, fine Renaissance architecture and the glittering Iglesia del Salvador, one of the most magnificent churches in Spain.
The smallest and most south-westerly of the archipelago is the island of El Hierro, a somewhat remote and occasionally windswept holiday haven that is particularly popular for its sweeping Atlantic vistas. Located some 700 metres above sea level, its capital, Valverde, is both the smallest Canarian capital and the only one not located right beside the sea. Well-known to diving enthusiasts who travel from all over the world to savour its unique underwater experiences, El Hierro is another of the Canary Islands that falls under UNESCO's protection as a geopark on account of its rare volcanic natural features.
Criss-crossed by long winding roads and with a coastline dominated by dramatic sea cliffs, the beautiful island of La Gomera is a very mountainous place with palm-filled valleys and vast expanses of ancient subtropical forest. Its centrepiece is the dramatic Parque Nacional de Garajonay (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) where some of the most breathtaking scenery in the Canaries can be seen. San Sebastián de La Gomera, the island’s main town and capital, is where the famous explorer, Christopher Columbus, stocked up on supplies before discovering the New World in 1492. Make sure you visit the town's excellent Ethnographic Museum to learn all about La Gomera’s history from pre-Spanish days to the present.

Yes. Whenever you arrive to pick up your car rental in the Canary Islands, the local supplier will always ask for a major credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Diners and American Express, etc.) in the name of the main driver. The reason for this is that they will need to hold a bon against any damage caused to the vehicle or any unpaid parking or speeding fines that might occur during the rental period. If no damage is reported, then the amount is promptly released back to your card. Please note that if you are renting a car in the luxury category, the car hire company might require a second credit cars (also in the name of the main driver) due to the high value of such vehicles. At the time of picking up the car, be aware that a specific amount of money is routinely blocked on your card. This is held as a bond in case any damage appears on the vehicle during your rental period. It is also very important to bear in mind that debit card and prepaid cards will not be accepted when picking up your low-cost car rental in the Canary Islands.

You will find that all the rates quoted for car rental in the Canary Islands with Auto Europe include Theft Protection (TP), liability insurance and CDW (Collision Damage Waiver), either with or without excess depending on the supplier. This so-called basic rate includes the minimum amout of legally-required coverage for using the roads in the Canary Islands. Nevertheless, please keep in mind that some arts of the vehicle are not fully covered by this, which means that it's always a good idea to spend a little more for more comprehensive coverage. For this, we recommend our Full Damage & Theft Protection car coverage policy for a small additional charge which will cover you against any damage to the roof, windows, wheels, etc. for the whole of your rental period. Please note that the price of Auto Europe's popular Full Damage & Theft Protection coverage varies according to the location, rental duration, car category and supplier.

This same information is also clearly stated in the Terms and Conditions both when making an enquiry and after finalising your booking. Please keep in mind that some car rental companies in the canary Islands have been known to offer customers a similar kind of coverage when they arrive to pick up their vehicle, but this coverage they're offering is completely optional and Auto Europe cannot be held liable to provide a refund of any such locally-purchased coverage, even if it is deemed unnecessary once the vehicle has been returned.
Yes you can, generally speaking, but a lot depends on the supplier you have chosen for your cheap car hire in the Canary Islands. As is always the case, the client will need pre-approval from both Auto Europe and the supplier in question before taking their rental vehicle on a ferry to another island. If the car is taken on a ferry without permission, then the insurance coverage becomes null and void due to the terms of the rental agreement being broken, and (most importantly) the driver will be held liable for any damage caused to the vehicle during the time spend on the ferry and the other island in question.
